2020 - a Journey into Digital Art

The Pandemic Lockdown of 2020 provided me the perfect opportunity to draw a whole lot more than in any previous year - I work for myself and sadly, at least for the first two months there was no work of substance.
I acquired a Huion Graphic Tablet right at the beginning of March, not with any grand plan, just because it looked like an interesting thing to try. Pencil art produces graphite dust and is more involved to set up and take down on my desk should I needed to do a ‘real job’. The tablet was not.
The first drawing was a Dr Who with Dalek and Cyberman. My wife is a big Whovian and Mr Tennent her fave. It took around 30+ hours and was an enjoyable project.
I switched things up as I was feeling my way and the next was a slightly more graphic approach for Ana from Overwatch as suggested by my Son.
I was still mixing in Pencil drawings too and even tried a more 'painterly' approach with the tablet for one idea.
The next drawing is where it all started to become clear where I wanted to go. For the Bladerunner 2049 I looked to get a realism in Harrison Ford’s face. This became my thing. An approach where I stipple lots of 'dots' and marks over and over the same area, to achieve the texture and tones to look like skin.
It was well received and soon had people suggesting other films, Tv shows and characters to ‘do’ next.
When I created Boba Fett (Star Wars 1313), a good friend of mine asked if I could sell him a print. I tried home printing, but this looked and felt cheap. If I were to sell a product it needed to be the best I could make.
I found a company that specialises in Art Prints and they look really great. I next found a supplier for solid wood frames as the finished product is the sum of all good quality parts.
That was where it started. More ideas thrown my way from friends, family and Facebook followers, and soon I has a range of different designs and needed a way to get them to a wider market and that is when I stumbled upon Etsy.

During the 1st Lockdown in 2020 I acquired a Graphic Tablet to pass the time. Posting the results to Facebook, family, friends and Followers asked for prints, so I sourced a great supplier to make them for me... and the result is now my Etsy shop.
