Announcement   Happy Holidays!
Over the Holiday Season Heirloom Knitting orders will be processed with a few minor changes :

~ ~ Yarn and books will be posted out on the mornings of Monday (24th December), Friday (28th December) and Monday (31st December) to work around the UK Bank Holidays.

~ ~ Pdfs and eBooks will go out as usual ----

Thought I'd make you go glass-eyed with one of my recent finds:

September Tip: To convert NM to yd/oz
Find the yarn's single NM - so a Merino Lace 2/28NM (is actually a 2 ply using 28000m of a 1 ply per kilo), = 14000m per 2 plied thread...now, multiply this single= 1/14nm 'x 31' and you get the 'yd/oz' approx....eg 1/14NM x 31 = 436 yd/oz.

It works in reverse too:

a 160 yd/oz yarn 'divided by 31' = 1/5.16NM = 5160m/kg.
If it's a 2 ply the spin number, will be 2/5.3NM

So '31' is a knitter's friend, now just link it to something memorable....for me, easy - the age I was when I had my son!

Signed copies of the revised and extended full colour edition of Heiroom Knitting are available from here and all books bought from me will have a free signed bookmark with ten hand-wound samples of the majority of the yarns featured!

As you may have picked up, I've been deep in research now on old wool yarns both US and UK as they are sister yarns - so to understand one is to understand the other - and the vintage yarns of the US have better survived the 'make do and mend' campaigns of WW2, so studying them provides enormous insight into the now lost UK ones ~ only the stuff of vintage patterns for most part.

More HK is being beavered away on slowly too and whatever takes my knitting brain's fancy! I hope all is well with you and yours :-)

"Here is where you will find everything for finest Shetland Lace Knitting. This is a specialist shop, please be patient to allow me to give your order the time it deserves and for me to write further books. Sometimes, I need to specially order in items, and it can take a day or two longer than the scheduled dispatch day.

PLEASE NOTE - ALL MY WORK IS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ONLY -
PATTERNS CANNOT BE DELIVERED IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE.
Posting days are normally Tuesday and Friday.

THE LEGALS

Pattern pdfs will be personally emailed directly to the buyer from our email address to theirs. They are not to be distributed without permission from Sharon Miller.

PATTERNS ARE IN ENGLISH ONLY

The sale of pattern pdfs by us is NOT an automated Download Service for Digital Items - we do it this way to ensure costs for our customers are kept as low as feasible - as VAT does not then need to be applied. This, in broad terms (after logged advice from HMRC Customs and Revenue, 29th February 2016) is currently an extra 20-25% in Europe depending on the home country of the customer.

IMPORTANT
The email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the individual to whom they are addressed. If you have received them in error, you should not disseminate or copy the email. Please notify Sharon Miller immediately and delete it from your system.

Email transmission cannot be guaranteed to be secure, or error free as information could be intercepted, corrupted, lost, destroyed, late in arriving or incomplete as a result of the transmission process. Sharon Miller therefore does not accept liability for any errors or omissions in the contents of messages which arise as a result of email transmission.

Finally, you should check emails and any attachments for viruses. Sharon Miller (trading as Heirloom Knitting) can accept no liability for any damage caused by any virus, etc., transmitted by email. It is recommended that you actively protect all your confidential and personal information, including that sent by email, and suggest that you consider the advice on the getsafeonline website (getsafeonline.org).

SHIPPING for NEEDLES, BOOKS and YARNS

Order as you wish - ignore any scary postage totals doing this,- I will try to combine orders placed in the same day by the same buyer and address, and refund the extra postage :-) - see details from Royal Mail Guide below. I've hunted high and low how to do this better on Etsy, but this is a good workaround. I always get proof of postage with all sent items.

Note : I am HAPPY to combine mixed yarn orders to take best advantage of rates shown below - please order in the usual way and I will refund the difference, providing the orders are as above, placed on that day, by the same customer, going to the same address. I buy a lot online too, and appreciate how expensive this can be, especially if the seller won't allow combined shipping.

Signed-For Delivery / Large Value (£100+) orders : I do discounts for peace-of-mind Signed For Shipping. If you particularly want Signed for Shipping please state this in the Order Notes Box and I will get back to you with the best rate I can arrange - I will need to charge you extra for this if you live outside the UK. We send to the customer's confirmed address with Signed-for Tracked Special Delivery as this is the safest method. Please confirm the addressee's name in English for the parcel's signature but be aware that unfortunately it is Royal Mail's policy to delivery to an address only and not to a named person. In order for you to prepare to receive your parcel safely we will send you the Tracking Number by etsy's 'Order Completed' notification. IMPORTANT : Please be aware and accept that it is shop policy / seller's policy that once a tracked parcel is signed for at that agreed address, our responsibility as the seller ends.

The following are for Royal Mail First Class Rates for Small Parcels ~ 2018. To these, I will add a minimal cost of packing materials, handling and processing - I need paid help with this, from 55p (small yarn bag) to maximum £2 (£1 for card sleeve, other fees, etc)

UK = £3.45 up to 1 kg ~ you can go mad :-) eg, yarns = £4 p&p (AKA shipping).
