Antiques & Fine Jewellery backed by over 20 years experience

Hi Im Michael Hunter and proud owner of this shop Helenas Curio.
My own interest in antiques and jewellery began in 2011. It was my mother who influenced me and helped with my first few buys. She was in the antiques game for over 30 years. I took the shop name Helenas Curio as Helena is her middle name.
After only selling at fairs myself I've decided to bring these wonderful and interesting finds into my online shop.

I do sell a variety of items including antique english silver, antique glassware ( such as Emile Galle ) and other unusual items that may catch my eye. I look for things that have true history and that have been cherished through time. I do focus mainly on antique jewellery and try to stock beautifully crafted pieces from the Victorian, Edwardian, Art deco and Art Nouveau periods. More recently I have begun to add vintage pieces which date from the 1950s to 80s. There are so many fabulous things out there!

As well as managing this shop I am a passionate artist. Links below

I hope you enjoy browsing through some of my items and please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Thank you

Welcome to my antique & vintage jewelry, antique and curio shop.
I travel around the UK in my quest to find unique and authentic items which may not be easily found. I handpick everything my self and inspect for quality and authenticity before displaying in my store.

Everyone has their own taste and preferences when it comes to buying vintage & antique jewelry, antiques & curio, which is why I try to pick an interesting and diverse selection of items.

When you opt to buy an antique piece of jewelry or other, consider it to be a sound investment. You are embracing the historical significance of the piece.

Returns and exchange details
We must be informed of any issues or problems with your purchase within 5 days. In the event that the item is returned to us for a full refund, we must be satisfied that the item is in the exact condition that it was sent. The return postage must be fully insured and proof of postage must be obtained. You must also make sure that the item is tracked and we must be sent the tracking code/number.
Shipping fees are non-refundable and the buyer pays return shipping.

IIf a buyer requests to return an item which is not damaged, faulty or described incorrectly then our original shipping cost will have to be deducted from the refund amount otherwise we would be out of pocket for something that was not a fault of ours. This is the case even if the original item cost included shipping. We have to factor that into the costings but if the item is being returned then we are obviously going to be out of pocket.

CUSTOM ORDERS
Returns are accepted on our made to order pieces. However, once an order is fulfilled we can only accept a return if the item is faulty or damaged. Items of jewelry such as natural gemstone rings will differ slightly and so we show a listing as a good guide but the gemstone cannot possibly use the same stone. We always make sure to match closely as best we can.

Layaway and resize items altered pieces are not eligible for return or refund.

Please take your time when reading the descriptions Also look carefully at the photos and use the ZOOM IN ( located under the images to the right) before purchasing.

Most of my items are vintage and some pieces are over 100 years old which means that they will probably show minor signs of wear consistent with the age of the piece.

I inspect all my items for condition and authenticity before listing. I describe each item and take the best clearest pictures to the best of my ability. Most of the pictures are taken in studio lighting. Please contact me if you require further images and images under natural lighting such as diamond rings.

Additional policies and FAQs
JEWELLERY CLEANING

Most commercially prepared jewelry cleaners are safe, but beware of those that contain ammonia or chemicals that can damage sensitive gems like pearl or amber.

As a first step, let your jewelry piece soak for a few moments in a solution of warm water and mild detergent or cleaning solution.

Use a soft brush, not a toothbrush, to gently scrub your jewelry.
A shaved matchstick or toothpick is quite good at picking out accumulations, but don’t be too harsh. Patience pays off.

When you’ve finished scrubbing, dip the jewelry piece back into the solution for one last wetting. Then rinse in warm running water, preferably about the same temperature as your solution. Radical temperature changes are dangerous and should be avoided.

Shake or blow on the jewelry piece to remove excess liquid, then gently polish with a soft lint-free cloth or chamois.

•Caring For Your Gemstone Jewelry Before You Clean

Cleaning your gemstones after they get dirty is only part of proper care. Pre-use care is also important. Apply your perfumes, colognes, and hairsprays before you put on gemstone jewelry. Not only will these chemicals reduce gem brilliance, the ability to return light, they can be highly destructive to some gems, such as pearls, which react violently to acid and alcohol.

If possible, wear your perfumes and colognes in areas that won’t come in contact with your gems. In the case of pearls, try to keep them out of contact with skin, whether you’re wearing perfume or not. Perspiration is inimical to pearls. If it’s impossible to keep your pearls away from your skin (if they’re on chokers or bracelets, for example), wipe them clean with a damp cloth immediately after wearing them.
