One of Yorkshire's Last Great Wheel Spinners, Inkle Weavers and Purveyor of Yorkshire Rare Breeds Wool.

In 1984, I went into a craft shop in Halifax's 'Piece Hall' and bought a hand-spindle. Only 30 years later, to find out my direct ancestors, Smith and Dawson, had been clothiers, weaving "fancy woollens", and sold their handwoven pieces from that very place in the 1790s. So you could say it's in the blood! I spin, weave, and dye and Mr Hunt and I travel the UK doing Living History as 'The Luddites', demonstrating the Great Wheel and Portuguese Knitting and delivering talks and workshops on textile history.

I am one of the UK's handful of Great Wheel spinners, and I am a regular contributor to 'The Knitter' magazine, writer of 'River Ganseys' and contributor to the latest edition of the classic book 'The Old Hand-Knitters of the Dales'. I'm one of the Crafters in Residence at the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, Murton Park, near York.

Our ethos is to keep old crafts alive, whilst being as ethical and environmentally responsible as possible. I have practiced low impact (environmentally friendly) natural dyeing for over 30 years.
