It all started with a bag of beads and a ball of hemp

After leaving college in Liverpool, England a career job did not interest me but traveling the world did. My mum taught me to macrame at the age of 6 and making hemp jewelry later helped support my world travels for many years. I started my first business in 2000 after an accident left me unable to work in Perth, Western Australia. All i had at the time was a bag of beads and a ball of hemp and selling jewelry helped pay for a bed at a local youth hostel. I ended up selling so many pieces of jewelry to travelers and local surf shops i opened a stall at Fremantle Markets and stayed there for two years.

During a trip to Colorado in the 1990's i discovered a small shop selling hemp products and sold jewelry to the shop owner. We soon became a good friends and i was hired to be the shop manager. This was one of the first hemp stores to open in the USA and it was from working in the shop and travelling to trade shows and events around the country that i learnt about the many uses of hemp. The mountains lured me back to Colorado eventually where i owned and operated two retail stores of my own selling jewelry and accessories.

In 2009 a friend suggested i list my handmade hemp jewelry for sale on Etsy.com. At the same time i saw the need for a one stop supply shop for hemp jewelry makers and Hemp Beadery was born. Six months later i was able to close the brick and mortar store i was operating and work full time on internet sales.

I have heard people say over the years that you can't make a living selling hemp jewelry, but here i am now and still am! I have shipped hemp and beads to many countries around the world including remote locations like Burma and Afghanistan and receive orders for handmade jewelry everyday.

Thank you to all my customers I love my job!

What Is The Difference Between Hemp Twine and Cord?

The difference is in how they are made. Hemp twine is made with less strands of fiber than cord and may be uneven in thickness and have fly aways. Hemp cord is round and even in thickness throughout the strand with no flyaways making it the best choice for high quality macrame jewelry.

Are your hemp products safe for children, babies, pets?

All of our hemp twine and cords (including glow in the dark), bamboo and organic cotton products are dyed with eco friendly, chemical free dye's that are tested safe for babies and animals. The dye is color fast so it will not rub off on your skin. Waxed cotton cords, nylon, leather and other man made materials however may be coated with chemical wax and may not be suitable for children. Just ask if you have any questions about what product will work best for your project.

We will accept for return any item in the same condition received up to 14 days from date of delivery. Please contact us first to authorize a return. Items that are non returnable include custom made jewelry, twine or cord that has been cut, unravelled or used.

Please note - Imperfections are characteristic of natural fibers and are not considered faulty. Due to the manufacturing process twine and cords may have tie knots, vary in color and thickness through the strand, have fly aways, knotty bits or a natural smell. We aim to accurately represent all of our products, but what you receive may appear slightly different from that shown in photo due to shades of color, thickness, length etc varying between different batches.
