I find painting on silk very therapeutic. I love working with this beautiful fabric, the paints and dyes.

The fixing of dyes and paints is a very important step, as that makes this art wearable.

Painting beauty on silk
Painting on silk is for me just another art medium I’ve ever tried to discover and explore. Since I was a little girl, I was nagging my mum to teach me and show me different techniques and help me to understand the world of art. I remember sitting with her and drawing portraits, nature or abstracts imagining myself being a full-time artist.
Then during my teenage years, I fell in love with a design, especially fashion and textile design. I decided to study fashion design and scenic costume alongside figural drawing and classic fine art lines and the history of art. One day my art teacher brought in a piece of plain silk and some dyes/paints into our studio and showed us the beauty of silk art. Moreover, I fell in love again. The colours and beautiful finish of fabric was just overwhelming, and I just felt the need to learn and explore this art medium as well.
I set up my first fashion/textile art studio many years ago back in the Czech Republic, where I am coming from. The main focus was on hand-painted clothing tailored made and ready to wear. After a few years of constant growth, I decided that it was time to try something else. My husband and I relocated to the London United Kingdom to change our lifestyle and start over.
I began focusing on my large scale drawings and surreal hand-drawn digitally printed prints on T-shirts for various brands.
After giving birth to my son I’ve realized that I need more time to spend with my family, so I decided to set up my art textile studio Heron Design Studio again here in London UK and start from scratch. Naturally, my first choice was silk painting. Nowadays, I am exploring new techniques as there are new possibilities, better paints and dyes and the trend of handmade products is on the rise. I also decided to join this handmade arts & crafts revolution and showcase my new hand-painted designs.
