It all began with two Nans....

My love of beautiful vintage pieces began at a very early age. Whilst my wonderful Mum went to work, I was looked after by my two fabulous Nans. Nanny Esther and Nanny Jake!

Esther was chic and stylish, beautiful with striking green eyes, always immaculate. She never missed her weekly hairdressers appointment, where she would sit for what seemed liked hours under a huge domed hair dryer in a row of equally stylish ladies flicking through VOGUE magazine. I would sit across the salon, "behaving nicely" as Nanny had told me to do, studying the clothes and shoes of these interesting creatures imagining what their names might be and what other wonderful clothes and jewellery they might have back home.

Nanny Esthers bedroom was beautiful! Two huge curved walnut wardrobes, polished to a mirror shine, A matching dressing table laid out to perfection, with an exquisite cream leather jewellery box and elegant cut glass perfume bottles.
A huge bright white fur rug lay on top of a pristine carpet. To a little girl this bedroom was straight out of the black and white Hollywood movies nanny and I would watch together on rainy afternoons.

Supervised I was allowed to look through Esthers stunning jewellery collection, I adored every piece and the way Nanny was so delicate and careful with them, just made it seem all the more special.

Esthers wardrobes housed the most beautiful clothes. Stylish chanel style suits and pretty twin sets hung on padded hangers organised and co-ordinated. Her stunning faux fur coats and fox stole too high for me to touch. On Thursdays Nanny Esther would take me to the jumble sale that was at a grande old church at the end of her road, Together we would wander and rummage the wonderful old treasures. I could choose anything I wanted, but it was never a toy or book, always something sparkling, stylish, beautiful and treasured, just like my Nanny Esther.

Nanny Jakes name was Nimmy, we all called her Nanny Jake because her gorgeous black dog was called Jake, and I guess as they were always together the name just stuck.

Nanny Jake was a collector of vintage treasures. Her house was full of wonderful pieces and Art work sourced from jumbles sales and antique fairs. Looking back I feel she invented Shabby Chic!

Nanny Jake was a bohemian beauty, Her sparkling hazel eyes and high cheekbones could out do any outfit.
I would spend my days with Nan walking Jake, feeding pigeons and rummaging at jumble sales and Antique fairs for Art and treasures.

Nimmys bedroom was to me, Aladdins cave. It was crammed with treasures and there were no holds barred!
Her bed was covered in a beautiful floral and lace eiderdown. On to which I would pour the contents of her beautiful chinese jewellery box and sift through like a magpie at CHRISTIES. Her dressing table was laid out with trinket boxes and cut glass pots, all holding something wonderful inside. A china, gloved hand with diamond rings on the fingers and a stunning silver Art Deco vanity set.
Nans wardrobes were crammed full of wonderful, interesting clothes, hats, gloves, handbags and shoes. Every piece different and beautiful.

I would choose myself an outfit and get dressed up, accessorising with a huge hat, lace gloves, snakeskin handbag and jewels galore. I would shuffle out in a pair of Nans elegant Italian leather shoes and show her how fabulous I looked. When Mum came to collect me, we would spend some time tidying up Nannys bedroom!

My two beautiful Nans have been the inspiration for my own style and my love for beautiful vintage pieces. House of Havisham is a collection of Vintage jewellery and accessories, sourced by myself from Vintage markets and Antique fairs across the country. I hope you find a piece to love and treasure!
