Enjoying the process
I think you can only create good art when you are enjoying the process, and I find that experimenting with all types of processes and materials is great fun. I might use anything from oil, acrylic and watercolour paints, to natural materials such as rock, stone, wood and plant matter depending on what I am working on.
I like to create something with a story behind it, and I like to play around with form and structure, and the placement of the materials I have to hand. The things that catch my eye have a three dimensional quality to them, art you can touch as well as look at, and so I will often incorporate this into my work.
I particularly enjoyed engraving stone with symbols and forms, and this engraving will often appear in some of my works.
After retiring from a long career as farmer, lecturer and Estate Manager I wanted to pursue my dream of creating and experimenting with all forms of art. Opening a shop on Etsy has given me a chance to display some of that work.
