From Biologist to Jeweller and all things green!

I was a creative child, happy both outdoors exploring the forest or indoors immersed in some creative venture. I pursued my dream of being a biologist and earned degrees in both Vertebrate Zoology and Biogeography. After 20 years of working in the physical sciences and international development, it was time for a change that allowed me to indulge my creative side.

My fascination with nature has continued throughout my life. My work is heavily influenced by my love of all things green, found objects, and the colours and contours of nature. I am currently finding inspiration in the effects of nature on man-made items. My new collection is inspired by rusty chains and other industrial items found on the coast of Scotland.

I work hard to have an ethical making practice. In my studio, I limit the use of chemicals and use non-toxic alternatives when possible. In my jewellery, I use recycled and reclaimed objects and a more environmentally friendly lead-free enamel. This approach to my work is reflective of my journey as a Buddhist.

My jewellery brand name is inspired by my grandfather, whose name was James Aubrey. He played a big role in my life and I adored him. He passed away when I was 18, and I’ve been searching for a way to honour him. Naming my brand after him felt like a good way to do that.

      Designer/maker

I'm a former biologist turned jeweller. I'm obsessed with all things green, and I tend to forget to sleep when I'm enthralled in a good book. I make all my jewellery in my studio in Glasgow, and I also handle all the other aspects of my wee business.
