About Tailortrash

Sales 94
On Etsy since 2013

Upcycled clothing made from mainly recycled materials.

I've always made clothes. It started in the 70's with Punk clothing for myself and has carried on ever since. Even when I was on the road travelling in buses, trucks and trailers I managed to do some sewing. But I never had enough space, so I moved into bricks and mortar, for the first time in 30 years in order to start my business. After 3 years living in town, Tailortrash is established, so my daughter and I have moved off-grid again, into a little cabin in the Welsh hills.
The environment has always been important to me, so upcycling was a natural progression. I source my materials from charity shops, mostly, so am making a contribution to a number of charities in the course of my business, as well as recycling unwanted clothes & fabrics which could otherwise end up as waste. My clothes are generally quite loose and/or stretchy in an attempt to do away with the tyranny of traditional clothing sizes, after all how many people are a standard size?
I love deconstructing clothes and reconstructing them into something totally different from what they were! I don't use patterns, it's an instinctive process, starting with one garment as a basis, usually, then adding parts of other garments as I go.
At the moment I'm really into linen and stretchy jersey fabrics, so I'm scouring my local charity/thrift shops for these!
My clothes suit women of all ages and sizes, they are playful, sculptural and sometimes just plain silly!! Who wants to wear boring, off -the-peg clothes when you can have something totally original that makes you feel good and is handmade and eco-friendly to boot
