Frequently asked questions

So how big are your books? It's kinda hard to tell...

Since the release of our first book, "Korean | American: Everyday Cooking," on April 5th, 2014, at MoCCA '14, the biggest question we still get is: how big are these things? The exact measurements are 4.25 x 5.5 inches - or just a little bit bigger than a postcard or large envelope. As a result, they've been called all kinds of things: comics, zines, booklets, pocket manuals, and even Cliffnotes.

But the one thing we don't call them is bonafide, full-on instructional cookbooks. From what we've heard from customers, creating a full meal from scratch using Choi's recipes is entirely possible, but it can be challenging due to the scale of the images and lack of steps. So, we view our comics as a visual celebration of the food and family!

How long has Korean American Cooking Comics been around?

We've recently had a few customers asking how long we have been in business together. While this store was established in the fall of 2014, Choi created our first cooking comic - "Korean | American: Everyday Cooking" earlier that year while still living in Brooklyn. There have been quite a few Korean cooking comic books put out after ours - by much bigger publishers - but we consider ours the first independent. Our initial run of 100 books sold out at MoCCA Fest in April 2014. In fact, we remember our very first customer!

Since then, we've done our best to put out at least one book a year in between visiting all the awesome food joints we can!

How does shipping work with you guys?

We strive to get shipments out before or on the scheduled due date. If we are unable to fulfill the order in a timely manner, we will contact you and inform you of any problem in advance. If any complications should arise once the order has been shipped, we will do everything in our power to rectify the situation, send out a new order or offer you a partial or full refund. All orders are sent via USPS unless otherwise specified.

During the Christmas season, shipping times can double or triple depending on how snowy it gets. If you have a specific date in mind, such as a holiday, birthday or anniversary please let us know before you place your order and we'll make it happen!

Do you ship internationally?

Unfortunately, we no longer offer international shipping on a storewide scale. There were a number of factors that led to this decision, most concerning the reliability of American-International mail services and folks getting their orders on time. The last thing we want is for someone to loose an order (which sadly has happened).

However, we can make exceptions! If you're overseas and looking to purchase anything, drop us a line and let's talk it over. Alternatively, you can always check out or friend-neighborhood vendor - The Secret Headquarters Comic Shop, in Los Angeles. They ship all over the world!
