About

The story behind KPP draws

When I spoke to Total Womens Cycling about the range, here's how it went:

What first inspired you to create this range:

My two passions are cycling and design. So illustrating about cycling wasn't a shock of a hobbie.
But the inspiration was much bigger than that:
Being part of this world, I love the small details/behaviours that only cyclists understand.
The motivation to be lapping Regents Park before other people are awake.
Using the term 'bonk' in a very different way to most.
To my other non-rider friends and family, they think illustrating for this audience is niche.
I know it's not. The cycling community is huge, and it's awesome.
Female riding is so far away from 'pink and shrink it' - every rider I know is a complete superhero.
I love having the ability to create products for these people. Products that they are proud to put in their office and say:
'Yes I'm a cyclist, and this is what I believe in'

What are your ambitions for the range:

When I first put these up on my personal instagram, I was humbled at the positive response.
I love when people tag their friends/partners in the comments section.
The ambition is to grow the range and have a full product offering that gives cyclists that feeling of being part of something.
By putting it up on their desk or framing it at home, it means people will see it every day. If you are surrounded by it more, you'll talk about it more which means you'll ride more.
Hobbies are one of the most important thing to have in you life. If I can add value to someones cycling hobby, I'll be super happy.

What you most love about cycling:

I love all of the obvious things about cycling: the health, fitness, seeing the world, meeting people, transport etc.
But I'm also happy to admit the other reasons I ride:
- To have a section in my wardrobe that is just for matching lycra
- To be able to say 'I'm a cyclist'
- To treat coffee as medicine
- The pain cave. I know most of us avoid this, but I'm starting to love it more with each hill
- For the instagram content - obviously
- To be part of the traffic light pelotons
- To have an excuse to wear stupid socks
- To make amazing weekend plans with incredible company
- For the stories you hear whilst in the saddle
I'm actually working on a new A2 print called 'Reasons to ride today' which will encapsulate the above and many more.
