Hi, I’m Jane, the designer behind Jane Burns Designs. I’m a knit and crochet pattern designer based in Lincoln, UK. I love creating whimsical and fun projects that are as enjoyable to make as they are to wear.
I have been designing knitting and crochet patterns for over 15 years, and I have worked with many UK knitting magazines, such as The Knitter, Simply Knitting, Knit Now, and Let’s Knit. Collaborated with some amazing yarn companies, Scheepjes, King Cole, and Eden Cottage Yarns to name a few.
I often say that two designers share a studio in my head, one loves whimsy, bright palettes and fun elements, most seen in my children’s designs. The other, likes to focus on the bringing some calm and self-care, utilising more muted tones for my sock and accessories patterns.
What you can expect from my patterns:
My patterns are well written and easy to follow, with clear instructions and charts. Patterns are tech edited and sometimes test knit to ensure accuracy. I also share tutorials and tips on my website and newsletter, to help you improve your knitting and crochet skills.

5 out of 5 starsThis book is fabulous . I am still a kind of new sock knitter , but I am interested in a lot of patterned socks once I get a bit more practice . When I saw the " no room for ravers " sock on Instagram , I knew that would be one for me to knit . Thanks ! Just wish the exchange wasn't so bad ! It can be costly to order .

My first knitting design was commissioned back in 2008 by Let’s Knit magazine. Since then I have released over 500 knitting and crochet patterns. My portfolio is eclectic, with a soft spot for the cute and whimsical.
Shop policies
My designs are perfect for those who love to create intricate looking projects without lots of complicated instructions. I believe that crafting should be a relaxing pleasure. It’s my mission to bring clear and easy to execute designs, which are accessible for newer knitters and provide instant gratification for the more experienced.
I’ve designed patterns for a variety of publications, including The Knitter, Let’s Knit, Knit Now, Knit Today, Art of Knitting and Love Knitting for Baby. I’ve also produced a mini collection for Eden Cottage Yarns as well as co-authoring Crochet Infinity Scarves: 8 Simple Infinity Scarves to Crochet. My slightly quirkier work has been featured on television alongside Harry Hill.
When I’m not designing my latest socks or playing with beautiful hand dyed yarns from the dyers I love, you’ll find me knitting quietly in the corner of a comedy club, or at a live gig (I usually leave the knitting at home in this case!) As a result, you’ll find my work is influenced a lot by music, my other main passion.
I share my life with my husband, Doug, who proposed at a Foo Fighters gig (the song was Everlong, if you’re a fellow Foos fan) and my three children. One day, I’ll also have a mini Schnauzer called Angus.

Delivery
My PDF patterns are available to be downloaded immediately following payment to the email address you have registered with Etsy.
Please contact me if you have any concerns about your order and we can check everything together and if necessary I will resend your pattern.
