I, like many others, grew up a huge Star Wars fan. When I blindly stumbled across the X Wing Miniatures game in Barnes and Noble during the fall of 2012, I heavily hinted that I was interested in it for Christmas. And when it didn't arrive under the tree, I quickly went out and bought it myself, unaware of the addiction that miniatures games present.

I was quickly hooked, and found myself searching for not only games, but ways I could customize my ships, so I tried my hand at repainting these miniatures. I wasn't very good, but each one was coming out better than the previous one. When the CR-90 Tantive IV released, I was still awful at painting, especially engine glow. But it just seemed wrong to put such a lovely ship on the table with black engines. Since I knew I couldn't paint the engines properly, I decided that I was going to light up the engines. It took me about 14 months to finally finish the CR-90, quite discouraged with the process, specifically in regards to repeating each engine 11 times.

Thankfully, they had released the Gozanti by that time, and I quickly convinced myself that the only thing I didn't like about the CR-90 was that I had to do everything 11 times. And before I knew it, I was plugging away at the Gozanti, GR-75, YT-1300, and Raider, fully enjoying the process and end result. As the years went by, I picked up new tools, techniques, and best practices to make the end product better and faster.

As I started moving into standard play X Wing ships as well as Armada ships, my work was seeing more time on the table top, and more people were asking about commissions. At first I was hesitant as this is a hobby for me, and I didn't want it to become an obligation, but as I finished working on my own ships, I realized that commissions would provide me an opportunity to continue to support my hobby without having a massive fleet collecting dust.

Now, most large projects take 3-4 sessions to complete, and as such could theoretically be done in a week. But since it is still a part time hobby, I have to balance a full time job, a family, and my own personal play time with working on projects - I may only get one evening to work on projects in a given week. Realistically, I expect a standard project to take 2-4 weeks, but due to week to week variations, as well as potentially having numerous orders in the queue, they may take longer. I would rather over deliver and under promise than have someone upset that my personal life kept me from delivering on time, or worse, feeling pressured to get a job done in a compressed time frame and no longer enjoying the process.
