Beautiful handcrafted garments, made on historic framework knitting machines in Leicestershire, UK

I have been framework knitting for the past 40 years. Having worked in the textile industry in Leicestershire, I was interested in the history of the trade, and began to look into the origins of machine knitting. The machines were invented by William Lee in 1589, and although they were (and still are) operated entirely by hand/foot power, they continued to be used by framework knitters until the 20th century. I was lucky enough to have met some of the old framework knitters in Nottinghamshire many years ago, and I now operate the machines to make these beautiful scarves, shawls, squares and stoles in my workshop in Leicestershire. Whilst modern machinery has taken over in the knitwear industry, I continue to hand manufacture all my garments on framework knitting machines made in the 1840s, and believe that I am now the only person to do so.

I have been selling my handcrafted garments at craft shows around the UK for many years, but now I want to make them available to buy online.

Each garment comes with a leaflet outlining the history of framework knitting including a picture of me operating one of the historic machines. The garments are very delicate, light, warm, and make beautiful gifts and keepsakes. Each one has been handcrafted by me on one of my framework knitting machines, and I then finish, press, check and package them individually ready to send to the customer.

A video of me operating a handframe can be seen here: https://youtu.be/j1H_T6VtE5c
I have been a member of the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters since 1995.
The company was incorporated by Oliver Cromwell in 1657, and still meets in the City of London every year to regulate the trade. I also demonstrate the handframe knitting machine at the Abbey Pumping Station in Leicester on some of their special event days.
