Note from shop owner Sorry my friends, I have been forced to temporarily close the doors for a few weeks to catch up with a deluge of orders!! 🙈

We can still talk as normal on Etsy messaging, so don't worry, I'm always available to chat about your ideas and orders. Or (even better) WhatsApp/text/call me on 07828881708 from UK (or (+44)7828881708 from outside UK).
I am not taking any more Christmas orders until I have finished the current ones, as I can't guarantee they will arrive in time, but am now taking orders for the new year.

Beautiful natural wood and wool toys and playscapes, made with loving care and attention to the finest details!

Hi everyone, my name is Cathy and it is my dream to spread love and happiness to the children of the world.

God put into my heart a great love for children, and gave me the gift of creativity. These gifts are for giving. So my life's work is sharing that love with the hundreds of children in the world who cross my path.

And so, I work with children, I make unique and beautiful toys for your children, and I also love to sponsor children from developing countries.

The children I care for are my greatest product testers! If they love it, I list it! I am constantly improving my toys, based on the childrens' feedback. Their input helps me continually refine and perfect each item until I know that it will be something your child will truly treasure.

I specialise in children's imagination development, enhanced by free play and interaction with simple, beautiful, natural playthings which invite a deeply focused connection.

Imagination is the most precious gift, because not only does it enrich a child's play beyond measure, it also develops creative problem-solving skills, helps them reframe life's challenges into oportunities and sets them up for a resilient, resourceful, emotionally healthy adulthood.

Each original little character is individually hand painted or stitched by myself with loving care and attention to detail from the most beautiful finest quality natural materials (mostly wood and wool) to bring peace to your child's soul and nourish their senses and imagination as they play. As I work, I like to visualise the child who will play with this new toy. Maximum joyful play value for your children is my motivation.

From my little workroom in my 110 year old country cottage, many of my designs are inspired by (and photographed in) my organic forest garden filled with fruit trees, flowers and birds, which I can see from my big picture window. The 'soul' of each little doll and animal emerges as I bring them to life.

Other creations, such as our wooden trees, mushroom fairy houses, picnic table sets and felted playmats, are made by members of my team and further customised by me.

Currently my shop supports my four sponsored children from Kenya, Thailand, Indonesia and Burkina Faso, through Compassion, a Christian child sponsorship program. Just like the children I work with myself, their special gifts will be nurtured and encouraged. With your help, my takings will go towards lifting 4 children and their families out of the hopelessness of extreme poverty towards a better life.

Through my shop, I help these families in practical ways such as paying for a new house roof, extra food, bedding, or buying new goats or other livestock to help improve their lives.

I write to each child every month with messages of love, hope and inspiration, little cards, books and crafts, and pictures of my toys, which they love.

As a child myself, growing up in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, I was greatly influenced by my grandparents, who lived very simply, surrounded by nature's beauty. They made all my toys and clothes by hand, and the joy of receiving a toy made specially for me has stayed with me.
My dad grew a lot of our food in our garden, and my mum was a great fan of patchwork, crochet and handicrafts. My great aunt also made me the most charming little embroidered felt creatures, which were a lasting inspiration to me.
As a result, I have been drawing, painting and making things since I was a small child. I have always had this creative urge that was bursting to get out!

My mum has a favourite story from when I was 3 years old. My dad had given me a marrow from the garden to bring in to her to cook for dinner. By the time it reached her, it had turned into a penguin, with two eyes and a blanket, and I refused to be parted from it! Everything is alive in my world!
This is the world I wish to share with your children.

How to give our children the best we can manage is a choice most parents agonise over. But with the help of the Waldorf and Steiner movements, and makers of natural toys, a new generation is being inspired to ditch the plastic mountain and create uplifting, nourishing, sensory-enriched play spaces in their homes.

Since becoming a Waldorf Steiner nursery school teacher (15 years ago) and a Nanny and Creative Play Specialist (10 years ago) I have focused on nurturing the precious imagination and innocence of children with my carefully chosen, natural, handmade age-appropriate toys. My week is divided between working with children and toymaking.

I also make Discovery Boxes which you can learn about, along with many ideas for children's activities and care, at www.springboarddiscoverybox.com

WOODEN TOYS:
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not immerse in water or use outdoors.
Keep in a soft bag or box.
Waxed items can be rewaxed. Beeswax polish available on request.

WOOL FAIRIES:
Brush gently with a baby's hairbrush to remove dust, or gently dab clean with a damp sponge.

WALDORF DOLLS:
Surface clean with a damp cloth or sponge and diluted wool detergent, or if really necessary, very gently hand wash in cool water with wool wash liquid. Do not rub; simply immerse and soak for a few minutes, gently dabbing any soiled areas clean with a soft sponge. Gently squeeze in clean water to rinse. Squeeze excess water out gently in a clean dry towel. Leave to dry naturally on a warm radiator or in the sun.

Care instructions included.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Gift wrapping is free with every item, though you can pay a small charge for extra special gift wrapping! I always endeavour to package my products attractively and protectively.
To keep costs down, I try not to charge extra for packaging, as I collect and recycle envelopes and boxes wherever possible. Occasionally I may ask you to pay for packaging if I do not have a suitable size box I can use.
Beautiful gift boxes available for a small extra charge!

Shipping outside the UK

I can ship anywhere, just contact me for details and prices. We may need to use an international courier such as FedEx for large overseas orders, which can mean higher shipping costs. You are responsible for any import duties etc that may be required by your state.
Southern Ireland shipping is now classed as overseas - Europe rates (£5.60) by the Post Office.

Wholesale availability

Sorry, I cannot supply wholesale, since everything is individually made to order.

Are these toys suitable for babies?

Most of the items I make are suitable for children age 3 plus, as many contain small parts. I have a couple of block sets that are made for younger toddlers, and many items can be customised/made larger for your little one.

Payment Plans

I now offer individually tailored interest free payment plans for orders over £100, dividing up the total + shipping into manageable installments for you to pay off each week/fortnight/month in a series of custom listings. Your order will be shipped once payment is complete.

Covid-19 changes

Thanks to lockdown, I have been getting many more orders than usual, including more large playsets. This has extended waiting times for all orders.
Shipping times have also lengthened due to fewer postal staff and reduced transport, so please do not worry if your order is delayed. I am now using international express courier wherever possible for all overseas orders, as they are faster and more reliable.
I am taking every hygeine precaution including washing my hands frequently before and as I work, and I am also self isolating apart from trips to the post office. Most days I have no contact with the outside world as I focus entirely on felting, sewing and painting for my customers.
