About

Celtic Craftsmanship

Celtic Craftsmanship in miniature
Longline Studio was established in 2006 with the goal of recreating and capturing the heritage and spirit of Scotland in miniature. Over the years, my growing collection of resin cast and cold-cast metal, architectural, Celtic and Pictish sculptures and wall plaques have been gaining in popularity and collectability. My work depicts and celebrates Scotland's history and culture.

I am a traditionally skilled craftsman and artist who works in a wide range of materials. Wood, metal, stone, wax & plastics are the main materials used to create the original sculptures and models. Skills and techniques have been learned from the many very fine craftsmen I have had the pleasure of working with, in a long career starting in 1986 when I began as a trainee Architectural and Engineering Modelmaker with Glasgow company Angus Modelmakers Ltd. I have been involved with several small modelmaking companies over the years.

Today I have turned my commercial skills towards the artistic. Self taught as an artist, unique models and sculpture are my forté with most of my sculptures available as resin cast reproductions. When sculptures are to be released as a reproduction, moulds are made from the originals (known as patterns). Various resin compounds are poured into these moulds to create an exact copy of the original piece. The casting then goes through several cleaning, painting and finishing processes to bring you the finished piece. Each reproduction piece is entirely hand made by myself.

As each piece is crafted entirely by hand, so you can be assured of consistent high quality in a range that will bring you a wee bit of Scottish spirit. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information or have questions on commissioning me to create unique artworks and personalised gifts for special occasions.

My sculptures are designed for indoor display and in this respect should last for generations. However the resin and paints used are durable and outdoor display is at your own discretion. If the sculpture is displayed in a sheltered area away from direct sunlight and rain, the paint finish may last a considerable time before fading and degrading. The casting itself should last decades or longer. No guarantees though are given for outside use
