WIE ZIJN WIJ
Loop by Loop Studio is in 2013 opgericht door Hayley Perry. Hayley groeide op omringd door tapijthaken, dankzij haar moeder Sharon en tante Deanne, maar begon pas vele jaren later met het maken van haar eigen tapijten en ontwerpen. Hayley heeft haar opleiding in Schone Kunsten en na het behalen van haar diploma in schilderen in 2011, begon ze online stoffen te verven en te verkopen, tapijten te haken en kits te maken, wat is uitgegroeid tot haar fulltime carrière.
Een van Hayley's doelen is om tapijthaken te helpen een breder publiek te bereiken, omdat ze de voordelen begrijpt van vertragen in deze grillige wereld. Ze gelooft dat er waardevolle lessen in dit soort handwerk liggen en moedigt iedereen die een moment van reflectie nodig heeft aan om dit eenvoudige en ontspannende ambacht uit te proberen.
WAAROM IK VLOERKLEDEN HAAK
Ik voel me aangetrokken tot tapijthaken omdat het me in staat stelt om traditionele ambachtelijke technieken te combineren met hedendaagse thema's. De mogelijkheid om afbeeldingen te maken met de lussen geeft me het gevoel dat ik "met wol schilder", wat spreekt over mijn liefde voor schilderen en tekenen. Het tactiele proces van het door mijn vingers stampen van de wollen stroken is geruststellend en de herhaling of het trekken van lussen is mediterend en louterend.
Ik hou absoluut van de primitieve stijl van tapijthaken - de afbeeldingen zijn vereenvoudigd en grafisch en richten zich op kleur en textuur. Ik heb de neiging om "pittige" ontwerpen te maken met veel contrast, het soort afbeeldingen dat mijn geest opgewonden en gelukkig maakt, en dat is tenslotte het belangrijkste.
WHO ARE WE
Loop by Loop Studio was founded by Hayley Perry in 2013. Hayley grew up surrounded by rug hooking, thanks to her mother Sharon and aunt Deanne, but did not begin making her own rugs and designs until many years later. Hayley holds her education in Fine Arts and after getting her graduate degree in painting in 2011, she started dyeing and selling fabric online, hooking rugs, and making kits, which has blossomed into her full time career.
One of Hayley's goals is to help rug hooking reach a broader audience because she understands the benefits of slowing down in this whirly world. She believes that valuable lessons lay within this kind of handiwork and encourages anyone who needs a moment of reflection to try out this easy and relaxing craft.
WHY I HOOK RUGS
I gravitate towards rug hooking because it allows me to blend traditional craft techniques with contemporary themes. The ability to make images with the loops makes me feel like I am "painting with wool," which speaks to my love of painting and drawing. The tactile process of thrumming the wool strips through my fingers is comforting and the repetition or pulling loops is meditating and cathartic.
I absolutely love the primitive style of rug hooking - the images are simplified and graphic and focus on color and texture. I tend to make "punchy" designs with a lot of contrast which are the kinds of images make my mind excited and happy, and that is what matters the most, after all.
