As a contemporary jeweller, living and making work in Leith, Edinburgh, my current work is based on abstract mark-making. Inspired by the spontaneous compositions of debris washed up along the East Coast of Scotland, it is centred around wabi sabi aesthetics.
Finding beauty in the ephemeral, imperfect nature of these formations, they are developed into jewellery using mixed-media mark making as a tool. The jewellery that results from this process is intended to appear as abstract, sculptural drawings that can be worn on the body.
Techniques such as enamelling, etching and patination are used to create a subtle, muted colour palette that focuses on depth of texture and tone, as well as a wire inlay technique that allows me to draw directly into sheet.
