Based in the city of Steel, Sheffield, Made in the Cellar was formed in 2012 with the idea of producing traditional furniture with a modern feel. Made in the Cellar is a family business that has gathered a team of skilled craftsmen to make beautiful furniture from reclaimed and solid wood for your home or business.

With every individual order being made to measure you can get exactly what you want- any size, any colour. Our great designs, combined with attention to detail, flawless customer service and after-sales means we provide the perfect buying experience.

Our workshop is based in Bruce Works in the heart of Sheffield's old steel-producing quarter. Formally Bruce File & Steel Works established in 1852. The heritage of the site was to manufacture tools for craftsmen, many of which we still use today.

We can all turn our hands to new and different projects often using traditional methods to give each piece its own unique and natural handmade look. Your welcome to come and visit our workshop, our doors are always open if you would like to come and see some of our products or chat about something you would like making.

Specialising in reclaimed timber for many of our products, we have a network of suppliers who hand pick each piece of wood for us giving every item we make a unique characher and look. For all our reclaimed timber, Oak and Ash, we use only legally and sustainably obtained timber.

Our reclaimed wood furniture parts are handmade from salvaged structural timbers such as roof rafters, purlins and joists.

Unseasoned wood was often used in these industrial buildings, and as the timbers dried in-situ natural shakes in the wood occurred through natural atmospheric changes. We consider these as unique character of the reclaimed timber we use and try and keep as much of this as part of each item of furniture as we can. As well as this, we try to let the wood show as much character from it's previous life by hand finishing each piece carefully while still keeping the finish and durability of the wood practical.

Table Finish

The top has been finished with a Matt acrylic varnish so offers a reasonable amount of protection without losing the natural finish of the wood. We recommend that you use placemats and coasters when using the table and any spills to be cleaned up straight away like you would with any piece of furniture. The table top can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap.

Re-Finishing our Table Tops

Later down the line if you wanted to re-finish the table top or if a spill gets left for too long and any stain refuses to budge you would need to clean the whole table top down with a damp cloth, mild detergent/soap on any stain and the table top would need a light sand (very light sand, so not to remove the stain under the varnish) with a 400-600 grit sand paper (de-nibbing sand paper which can also be bought from the website below) then a thin layer of varnish which you can buy from the link below and leaving it to cure for 3-5 days.
Link to varnish from the following website - (ensuring you select MATT finish) which is the same one that has been used on your table.
