Announcement   I got into jewellery from archaeology! I'm an amateur archaeologist, and I love field walking, carefully searching a landscape for clues as to its history, either by eye or with a metal detector. (Every artefact I find is registered with the UK Portable Antiquities Scheme.)
As well as exciting finds such as flint tools, my eye is often drawn to unusual, beautiful flints. When I get home, the fun bit is choosing the best way to set them, and which colour and gauge of wire.
Metal detecting also has distinct jewellery possibilities - especially now I've discovered enamelling! I hate throwing away Victorian pennies and half pennies, so worn that you can't even see the Queen's face; but they take enamel beautifully, and make brilliant brooches!
Finally, there's steam punk, in all its glory. I'm a Science Fiction fan, and have always loved the mix of genres and edginess of steam punk. Well, now I can make my own to share with you, out of a mixture of found, dismantled, and bought objects - great fun!

I hope you get as much pleasure from wearing my jewellery as I do from creating it.

Nicky.

I love to collect stones and fossils so when I saw this I just had to have it. It is as lovely as I expected - just so unique and unusual and really does look like a slice of the moon. The silver net holding it complements it beautifully.

About

Beautiful, natural handmade jewellery from the heart of Suffolk UK

I have several hobbies. Amateur archaeology is the key one; apart from satisfying my intellect and getting me outside for some exercise, I spend an awful lot of time looking at the ground. Lying around in the gorgeous landscape I work in are flint nodules, formed millions of years ago, when the land was under a sea.
The flint tells the story of that ancient landscape; from time to time I find fossils turned into flint, or formed as part of a nodule. But even if I'm holding a perfectly smooth piece of flint, the link is there.
I love taking a stone and wrapping it to enhance its beauty. Which wire I choose, and how heavy a gauge, is all part of the fun; as is working with the wire and stone to create something completely unique.
Sometimes the stones are pitch-black, and cry out for a minimalistic silver wrap to enhance their elegance; sometimes the nodules are covered with lumps and bumps that remind me of science fiction landscapes. These get a steam-punk treatment, and I love choosing additions that work with the stone.
I have a huge collection of old costume jewellery, much of it broken or simply not worn any more. What better use for it than to upcycle it into something fun? I especially like crocheting earrings with wire and light, pretty beads, making something delicate and airy that catches every movement of your head. I also find the steam punk ethos interesting and fun.

Lady with too many hobbies! - jewellery making being one of them. Also an author of historical novels, based on archaeological discoveries which I've made locally. (I often pick up interesting stones whilst out fieldwalking, that end up as pendants.)
