Announcement
Mahliqa specialises in intricate hand knitted and hand crocheted jewellery using enamelled copper wire, gemstones and crystals. The designs explore the art of traditional stitch, using wire to reflect the patterns of knit, stitch and crochet, incorporating those age-old crafts into her work.
Mahliqa’s designer and creator, Suraya, is a London-born British Asian, who draws on her cultural heritage of arts and handicrafts from the Indian Sub-continent.
Everything in the shop is made by her, Her love of nature is also a huge influence in her design process, which is reflected by her wire flowers, plants, references to the natural elements and colourful landscapes.
She loves working with colour, drawing on eastern influences for her jewellery colour palette.
As well as jewellery, she designs knitting patterns for yarn jewellery and accessories, Her Glam Garden Wrap incorporates crystal beads, which is the signature feature in all the jewellery she produces.
Her most recent design is a mosaic crochet temperature blanket, which also has the option of adding beads to mark memorable days within the year, making the blanket a memory blanket too.
Suraya is a regular exhibitor at The Knitting and Stitching Shows and other Yarn Festivals, where she exhibits her jewellery and also demonstrates the art of knitting with wire.
She has been featured in the We Make London publication “Inspired : London – A Guide to Handmade In London” published in 2012.
Her wire and yarn designs have also been featured in "The Knitter", "Inside Crochet" and "Simply crochet" magazines.
She appeared as an expert crafter on Kirsties Handmade Christmas in December 2019.
Suraya was also a winning finalist in the Kaleidoscope Fashion Show which took place at Vogue Knitting Live in New York in January 2020.

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful pattern! Only note is that instructions were using UK terminology and I didn't see this clearly noted - I have a different understanding of DC and TC for this reason.

5 out of 5 starsI’ve read over the pattern and I think it will be easy enough for me to understand as long as I remember to put things in US terms. I am so excited to get it started. I’ve been keeping track of the temperatures since Jan 1st. I will review again after I get it done so I can share a picture.
