About

Born...learnt to craft...learnt to walk...then to craft some more...broke back...learnt to walk again and learnt to craft even more!!! 😄

Welcome...
A bit about me. I am a British Jewellery/Beadwork and Ceramics Artist and Textiles Teacher.

I am lucky to have had my bead work and jewellery designs win various design contests nationally and internationally, including The British Bead Awards and Bead Dreams. I have had my projects published in UK magazines as well as International publications such as: Beadwork, Bead & Button, Perlen Poesie and Australian Digital Beading Magazines. I was also a Trendsetter for Starman Beads for four years until 2018.

Why I do what I do...
I love seeing creations and ideas grow in my hands. Art was always my most reliable companion from an early age and I spent many hours sewing and making with my Mother and Grandmother. As a teenager I found that my interest lay in working with textiles, fabrics, beads and clay. I went to Art College in the early 1990's and then to University in Norwich to study Textiles Design and Design Crafts.

Like many other jewellery designers I began my creative beadwork journey by becoming fascinated with stringing beaded necklaces and bracelets and twisting wires into my creations. I later went on to discover small beadwork and beadweaving.

I find that I am lucky to never be short of ideas, and experiment like crazy with techniques to produce interpretations of my designs that I am happy with.
As a bead work designer, I was often finding that I wanted to use unusual components in my designs which were very difficult to source in the UK or did not meet my design needs. (All very frustrating!) I recently decided to rekindle my love of clay and once again found great satisfaction in creating clay designs of my own. After many requests by fellow beaders and artists, I decided it was time for me to share my designs with others. So here I am, finally, with my own Etsy store. (I know it has taken an age to get to this point!)

When I'm not working on my designs I teach textiles part time to students at a secondary school. This is sometimes challenging but very rewarding. When I am not teaching, I am coping with the challenges that life brings with living with a broken back, and spinal cord injury (Cauda Equina Syndrome). Like many chronic health conditions some days are better than others. It's a way of life. You can sit around and feel sorry for yourself or focus on what you can do. I try to be a 'glass half full' kind of girl.

So on my good days I create, design, teach, write tutorials for magazines and make the best of feeling well. I have found focusing my energy on my art is beneficial, helps me stay positive, and manage my discomfort.
All being well, I aim to post your purchases within two days of payment. This can sometimes take a little longer when I am suffering with my health. In which case, please do bear with me, if my items take a few days more to reach you. You can be sure that when I feel well I will endeavour to deliver your items as quickly as I can. Obviously delivery outside of the UK is going to be a little slower, and I thank you for your patience with that.

I hope you like what you see here. I do not generally accept custom orders at the moment, as colours can vary with each firing and I like to create freely as the mood takes me, but you can always contact me with any requests and I will see what I can do for you.
Due to the nature of clay and glaze, many of the items that are shown here are one of a kind (unless I have made items in small batches at the same time.) I can make similar items but it unlikely that they will be identical due to slight glaze and clay differences.

Thank you and happy crafting!

Creativity is not a competition, it is contagious...pass it on.
x Marie
