As an artist, I'm always looking for new ways to express my creative nature. This can manifest itself by trying new techniques, picking new subjects or by using new materials.

In 2018 I had the idea of buying a few antique postcards online with the intention of creating some kind of artwork with them. Two years later these few postcards remained untouched on my desk in my studio. I must have just been busy, I guess.

Then, in Feb 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and many people, for better or worse, were quarantined at home. Fast forwards to April and I found myself spending more and more time in the studio painting and experimenting.

Around this time, there was an initiative launched on Instagram by designer and artist, Matthew Burrows called The Artist Support Pledge. The goal behind this was to provide an opportunity for out of work artist and creatives to help each other during this difficult period. The idea being that an artist would post work for sale on Instagram and, once the artist had sold £1000 worth of their own work they would then pay it forwards and spend £200 of that money on another artists work.

The initiative took off like a rocket and made a great deal of difference to struggling artists all over the world. Myself included. I took the opportunity to make the postcards into small, abstract landscapes and offered these up for sale via Instagram. These sold out every day, just as soon as they were posted. My postcard art was also picked up by House and Garden magazine here in the UK and showcased as part of their Artist Support Pledge round up in May.

These tiny, affordable artworks proved to be so successful that I needed to open a shop here on Etsy, just to keep up with demand. I had art enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world buying my work. And customers came back time and again to buy more, both for themselves and for friends and family as unique gifts. To date over 250 of these art works have been sold across Etsy and instagram.

It's been wonderful to hear the kind words and comments left by my customers. It's also so rewarding to know that these small creations have brought so much pleasure to people at a time of so much uncertainty.
