Passionate about original printmaking
I've been painting and printmaking for most of my life. Looking back to my childhood, I was surrounded by art and it so it seemed natural to me to follow this into adulthood. My love of the countryside and finding beauty in things that could easily be missed does influence my work, but so do bigger issues that I also explore in some work. I sometimes like to use birds and flowers in a symbolic way, to explore things in detail, to work from life, noticing the shapes and forms of plants, when the curlew arrives, when the swallows return and then put how I feel about them into my painting and printmaking. Art can be enjoyed on many levels and some pieces may suggest little stories or emotions. When etching I love to use copper plates and etch in ferric chloride- a very slow process for me, each etching may take weeks/ months and then I print on a Rollacco press, often on Hahnemuhle paper or St Cuthberts Mill Somerset Velvet. Every stage of the work is done by myself in my studio and I never stop learning. I am passionate especially about printmaking but do love painting and also keep little visual journals of my days.
