Hi I’m Carmen
I learned how to knit from my grandma and my mother. I was very young when I learned about patterns and techniques to knit sweaters, hats, and scarves. But the things I loved the most were toys. I remember playing with little horses knitted by my grandma, made of soft and warm Alpaca yarn, those are moments I cherish forever.

Throughout the years I proved that children develop harmoniously with simple, warm, handmade toys that invite to imagine and to play freely. Natural fibers like wool, silk or cotton have the power to calm and soothe children and make their play more creative. This is nothing new, however, it is hard for parents to realize the power that nature has on children, as well as the energy from handmade toys.

I became a teacher and a child psychologist, and l could apply this knowledge to children in Peru and Mexico through art and play therapy, which is also another of my passions. When our son was ready for school, my husband and I looked for an educational alternative that combined nature with a humanistic approach and a strong focus on arts. We found it on Waldorf pedagogy, where I learned another way to work with natural fibers.

This is how I decided to create My Knitted Horse and Friends, to bring children with toys made of natural fibers, with soul, made by mind, hands and heart. The first toy I knitted for my son was a horse I made together with my mother in a wonderful experience. That’s why I chose to name my company after him.
