About NeatCuteDesign

Digitally illustrated and handmade items by Judy - part-time nanny, full-time introvert.

Hi, I’m Judy 😊
I run Neat Cute Design from my home in Glasgow, UK. I’ve always loved drawing and other crafty activities but it’s only in the past few years that I’ve found my real creativity! Now I’m excited to create colourful and inclusive designs for introverts, spoonies and weirdos.

I stumbled upon the enamel pin community in late 2016 and fell in love (adding to my shopping addiction 🤭). Around the same time I went to a few Say It Ain’t Sew classes and learned to hand sew little felt objects. 🧵 I had tried embroidery at age 16 and loved it, but unfortunately I spent most of my late teens and early 20s studying, drinking, and being obsessed with clothes, nail art and makeup. 💅💄✨ This was definitely a way to express myself creatively but I soon realised that creating things outside of myself was a much healthier way to do it!

Over the next year I followed more and more illustrators and artists on Instagram and started journaling (using bullet journal styles to keep a diary, rather than planning 📑), hand lettering, painting with watercolours and drawing a little bit! ✏️ I dreamed of making my own enamel pins but the constant online inspiration made me conscious of my rusty drawing skills. I continued making little things with felt and graduated to soaking up as much as I could about hand sewing from blogs and youtube. For some reason in 2017 I decided to hand make as many Christmas and birthday presents as I could - which lead to months of stress! In the Boxing Day sales I bought myself a real live sewing machine and in the early hours of the 1st of January 2018 I completed my first project - a little pouch which now holds the pens for my dry erase board (which also holds most of my pin collection!). I believe anyone can learn to sew but I found it very intuitive and eventually started to wonder if I could ever sell my creations!

I strayed into making clothes for myself for the first half of 2019 but I was finding my job as a nanny more and more physically taxing (I have hypermobile joints which means they easily partially dislocate and I’m autistic so social situations can be tiring) so in August I cut down my hours and started to really think about my future business. I realised I didn’t have the time to work, run a business, have a life and sew enough little things to have consistent stock so I looked over my drawings from the past few years and chose some of my favourite ideas to translate into pin designs! 📍 I used Inkscape to transform my sketches into vector images and fell in love with the programme. My grandad taught me how to use Photoshop in the early 2000s so I was comfortable with computer design. 💻 I used the same designs to create colourful and weird stickers and prints and found some wintery designs for embroidery hoops that I translated into my first collection - winter greeting cards. ❄️ I have loved designing my products and plan to design many more - including hand sewn - one day, fingers crossed!

So thank you for visiting my shop and I hope you enjoy my creations!
