On Etsy since 2013

Always learning, always evolving

I originally opened my Etsy shop in 2013 but due to family commitments I had to close it soon after. From a young age I have been a "maker of things" starting out selling handmade earrings to my school friends and making my own clothes, I progressed to selling silk batik scarves and ties through various National Trust galleries.
I now find myself in a position to be able to devote some time to making and selling my copper jewellery! My story with copper started a few years ago following a trip to an exhibition featuring many different and wonderful kinds of wirework. I was both amazed and inspired by what I saw that day – how could cold hard wire be so expressive and versatile? I left with my imagination fired up and my fingers itching to get started!
I love all things ethnic and am hugely inspired by the jewellery of Africa, America and Asia, whether ceremonial pieces or day to day wear, the exuberance and colours of these lavish adornments never fail to astound and impress me, not to mention the sheer skill of the craftsmen.
I have recently returned to Devon and walks on the beach and in the countryside have inspired me to push my skills further in order to set stones and form sheet metal into earthy, organic shapes. I love the copper tones against the skin, it’s warm and tactile and easy to wear.
I am entirely self taught and am always looking for new techniques to master and put into practice. I relish the challenges of designing new pieces, and of incorporating my passion for up-cycling by using everyday copper items such as washers and used plumbing pipe! I try to avoid using too many chemicals and keep my workshop as low tech as I can. I’m for ever on the lookout for old tools with wooden handles as they always produce the best and most interesting results!
