Devotional by name, devotional by nature
Welcome to Northern Tamarisk. Here you will find a growing range of prayer beads and devotional jewellery. As time goes on more diverse devotional items and gifts will become available. I take great care in making my items, often choosing to make them in silence because I find the process of creation a devotional act in itself. I love the anticipation, the wait to see which beads will call to be used, and for whom.
Many of the larger and gemstone beads I use are from de-stashes and are pre-loved. This means they may not always be uniform in size or shape, but the gift of pre-loved beads is that they ensure the design will be a one-off.
Other items that use more readily available beads may be regular additions.
I also can't seem to stop myself from rescuing Deity statues in need of a good home, so will be setting up a Deity rehoming section. Many are pre-loved, found online, in junk yards or second hand shops. They were unwanted and weren't being appreciated, so I've given them a temporary home. Some of them are being given a new lease of life, free from mock-marble effects and garish paint jobs, others simply needed a little care. These beautiful Beings deserve to find that special someone who can give Them the love and attention They deserve. It is my hope that I can facilitate this.
I always cleanse the items I make and sell with a mixture of organic floral waters. I use this particular blend to clean and cleanse my own shrine areas and Deity statues, and I have found it to be very effective.
After cleansing I also ask the Deities and Spirits to charge my creations with the energies needed for their new owner. If a particular Deity is a part of the design I will call on Them specifically.
As I am becoming more aware of environmental and sustainability concerns I am looking into ways to reduce my own impact on the planet. This includes making use of pre-loved items, but also extends to my ideas for future ventures. It is something I will keep as a value to continually reassess where I can improve in business terms.
I'm a devotional Polytheist research freak who loves learning about history, mythology, spirituality, Paganism and traditional crafts. I'm obsessed with cats, penguins, dragons and Elves. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, various superhero series, and all sorts of random geeky stuff. I enjoy drawing and painting, beading, photography, upcycling, and trying my hand at new things.
I like to find ways to incorporate the Deities into my daily life as well as in a devotional setting. My various crafty pursuits help me to do this, and I always enjoy receiving flashes of inspiration.
I've had M.E., fibromyalgia, migraines and other things for over 14 years now, but rather than hinder my practice these conditions have actually inspired me. They make me have to find ways to adapt and discover new ways of connecting with the Deities. When you're stuck in bed or housebound quite a lot of the 'traditional' setup just doesn't work. As such my devotional life has become richer, and I can now start to share some of my designs and creations with others. The prayer beads in particular are something that have helped me when I've been in pain from various health issues. Holding onto them and using them as a focus distracts from the pain, and has helped me to call on various Deities when I've felt I needed someone present.
I'm trained in a number of complemetary therapies and healing practices, and these are a strong influence in my devotional work. A favourite past-time of mine is creating aura sprays and aromatherapy mixes inspired by the Gods and Goddesses, and for energy-cleansing purposes. I use a special blend of organic floral waters to clean and cleanse all of my creations, just as I use it to wash and cleanse my own Deity statues.
The Norse and Celtic connections are in my blood, being English with Danish, Norwegian and Irish ancestry. My personal devotional practice centres around Loki and his family, and the many Egyptian Deities who have called to me from a very young age. I also have a fondness for Kwan Yin, Persephone and Hades, and Gwynn ap Nudd. I like to honour the local land Spirits, and remember my Ancestors as well.
I have been lucky enough to have two lecture reports published in the journal of the Ancient Egypt and Middle East Society (AEMES). I’m a member of the UK branch of the Pagan Federation, and of the RSPB. I recently sponsored a puffin because conservation is something I feel is of great importance.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders
I am not currently offering custom orders. Due to sourcing the majority of my beads through stash clear outs and upcycling I cannot always guarantee what beads I will have available.
I do not currently offer items for wholesale purchase.
Gift wrapping and packaging
All items are placed in an organza bag that complements the colour of the beads used.
Please be aware that all prayer strands and jewellery are a potential choking hazard and should be kept away from children and animals. Although I make my strands and jewellery with strong, flexible beading wire they are not meant to be pulled on with any force. Doing so may result in breakage.
Do not submerge the prayer strands or jewellery in water. Take a damp (not soaking wet) cloth and gently rub the beads if you need to clean them. Please try to avoid getting the metal elements wet.
Problems with an order
If you have any problems with your order please contact me before leaving feedback. I will try to reply as soon as possible, but please be aware that sometimes I cannot answer on the same day for health reasons.
