My small workshop is based in the heart of the Norfolk Broads where I make hand thrown stoneware for use in the home & individual raku fired vessels.
Each piece in my stoneware range is individually made and then decorated with impressed & roulette decoration. The pots are then glazed with high temperature stoneware glazes, creating durable and functional pieces for everyday use.
My current raku work is inspired by photographic images of planet earth as seen from the International Space Station and also recent images of Jupiter from NASA’s Juno cam. Forms are wheel thrown, then decorated with terra sigillata slips. Layers of decoration are used to illustrate surfaces in a 2-dimensional way as would be seen from outer space. Some pieces are then burnished, some glazed. Raku fired wares are usually still porous after firing, but some of my small bottle shapes I have sealed to make them water-tight for flowers.

5 out of 5 starsReally lovely salt pig. Very well made and glazed. The handle looks to have been created when thrown so there’s no chance of it detaching. Beautiful colours in the glaze. Hard to photograph to make it look as good as real life as there’s lots of shades of colour. Very pleased

5 out of 5 starsI'd had my eye on one of these pots for a long time - it surpassed all expectation and was well worth the wait! Beautifully made and so unique, I love the map-like effect of the glazes. It is an eye-catching statement piece which now has pride of place in our living room. It was sent quickly and packaged extremely thoroughly and carefully. Thank you so much, it will be treasured.

A Norfolk Potter's Story
My potting career began many years ago in 1986 when I served a 4 year apprenticeship to a local Norfolk potter. Following this I graduated from Anglia Polytechnic University with an HND in Ceramic Design in 1996. During my college vacations I worked for another local potter, which led me to become resident potter at a small tourist attraction in Norfolk. Here, for 7 years; I produced and sold my own range of hand thrown stoneware.
In 2005 I began teaching Adult Education pottery classes alongside consistently working in my small workshop in Oby. I have developed my work in 2 ranges - stoneware and raku.
Raku fired wares are usually still porous after firing, but some of my small 'planets' & bottle shapes I have sealed to make them water-tight for flowers. Every raku pot is totally unique.
The pots in my stoneware range are individually wheel thrown. Each piece is decorated with impressed decoration using stamps, cogs, buttons & roulette wheels which form the pattern on their surface. They are then glazed with my own glazes to enhance the textural surface beneath and fired to stoneware temperatures making them durable, functional pieces which can be used and put in the dishwasher should you wish to do so. As each piece is individually made & glazed, there may be slight variations in size, shape & colour, making each piece totally unique.

My mission is to use environmentally friendly packaging wherever possible...as ceramics cannot be insured for breakages for shipping I have to pack like they're going to the moon, but rest assured the majority of packing materials I use which are not recyclable are usually 2nd or 3rd hand, but this is something that I am constantly working to improve.
I currently ship within the UK but if you would like to buy from outside the UK please contact me for a shipping quote. Any orders sent outside the UK may be liable for import duties, taxes & handling charges, which you as a buyer, would be liable for.
