Mudlark Inspired Visual Art from London, England

Announcement    Ahoy! Welcome to my shoppe, the home of the River Thames 'Oyster Eye' - an ancient oyster shell with a custom oil painted eye. Here is a place where you can buy a little piece of Thames history to treasure and keep.

The tidal Thames holds centuries of secrets and was once the equivalent of London's Oxford Street - the hustle and bustle of trade and travel, packed with ships and boats - it's said that at one time a person could cross the Thames just by stepping from boat to boat.

I use Thames found items in my artwork, and repurpose them to a new, useful and/or beautiful standard, to keep in our homes. Please note, I do not "sell my finds", by which I mean I do not sell complete items of historical importance, such as coins and other artefacts. The pieces I sell are mainly organic items that I have incorporated into my artwork, or, made an entirely new art pieces using the object as the base (for example, shells, bones, teeth and driftwood) and inspiration.

All my pieces are inspired by motifs, symbols, objects and processes from the past, mainly from the 16th - 19th Century. For example, I have just started a shell painting series that draws inspiration from the style of English Delftware, and another series based on images from legendary weekly magazine, Punch.

Please bear in mind that I am working with found objects from London's mysterious, tidal Thames. All items have been cleaned and/or sanitised appropriately, however, to keep the unique patina on some items, I have not used cleaning products such as bleach or rubbing alcohol. If you have any specific enquiries about how the item has been treated, please ask.
