Hello and welcome to Once A Shell.

We are a speciality gift shop selling our handmade in Maine presents. We craft these one of a kind gifts ( ie ornaments and jewelry pieces) from crushed oyster shell and sea-glass gathered along the beaches of New England and local oyster restaurants. Each piece is individually cast creating subtle variations in texture making every piece unique. We make our signature, trademark SHELL-FLAKE ornaments from crushed oyster shell formed in the shape of a snowflake. These one of a kind shell-flake ornaments reflect the natural beauty and tradition of New England craftsmanship. They are truly Maine snowflakes that don’t melt!! Whether you are visiting Maine or reside in Maine, we have a special present just for you!

We have many NEW items this season to include ring and trinket dishes, ornaments and our special Christmas Dory!
The majority of our sales come from consignment and wholesale at Two Sister’s Made in Maine in Freeport and Vignettes of Maine in Hallowell.
Also, this will be our third year participating in the Boothbay Arts and Crafts Fair.
New this year, we will be selling on Faire.com.

I stated making ornaments from crushed shell about 5 years ago after retirement and raising my family. I now have time to be creative and use the skill I obtained during college art classes. I enjoying seeing a raw material like shell turned into a keepsake from the home I call Maine.
