Announcement    Welcome to One Wild Planet! And thank you for your interest in my local little business. I live by the sea in beautiful West Wales, honouring the land and its creatures whilst weaving a living in a truly sustainable way.
I first learned about working with willow 15 years ago, when I began planting living willow dens when my kids were small. I quickly became totally obsessed with the material, and began to create willow sculptures. I then began to learn about the ancient crafts of basketry, and for the last 12 years willow weaving and teaching has been my full time job.
The willow I use is mainly my own. I grow 2500 willow coppice stools of 23 different varieties (there are over 400 varieties of willow in the world!). I hand harvest my willow each year, which takes me around 2 full weeks, with a little help from family. The harvest yields gorgeous naturally coloured organic willow which I then use to create unusual gifts and for teaching.
When I don't have enough of my own willow, I buy the materials from long established family businesses in Somerset, ensuring each piece is totally grown and made in the UK.
Having learned from professional basketmakers around Europe, I have been inspired to create each sculpture or basket as a totally unique tribute to this sustainable and ancient craft, made with love, and living with a One Planet footprint in mind.
Over the last 15 years I have taught in schools, to community groups and to people with disabilities and mental health projects, brining the therapeutic value of willow weaving to many hundreds all over the UK.
In addition to weaving willow, I also make felted products. On my smallholding I keep sheep, hand shearing their wool, then with plants from my garden I plant dyed the wool and hand felt it to create beautiful felted products.
I hope you enjoy looking at my shop and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want something you can't find!
