Contemporary Scottish Jewellery inspired by a traditional pattern

I was born and bred in the Scottish town of Paisley and have lived here all my life. Growing up I was aware of the towns history, walking past what was left of the old Ferguslie Mill buildings to get to school every day it was hard not to be. But I never fully appreciated Paisley's history.

The Paisley pattern didn't originate from Paisley, it's a historic floral pattern of Persian origin and was used on Kashmir shawls from India. Paisley became synonymous with the pattern as it had the expertise and technology to reproduce more affordable versions of the Kashmir shawl. They weren't the only place to make reproduction of the shawls but they did so on such a large scale that the pattern became forever known as the Paisley pattern.

It has gone in and out of fashion over the years but it has never disappeared, test-amount to its universal appeal.

The history of the Paisley pattern is important that in 2017 the Paisley Shawl was named as one of 25 objects that shaped Scotland's History.
