Announcement   The early years of the 20th Century were the heyday of so-called ‘commercial art’. An explosion in graphic design drew on all the current trends of the art world and translated them into bold arresting images. Now you can buy copies of some of these wonderful images to display in your home. Created from the beginning with the intent of widespread distribution, the reproduction prints you can buy in this shop are as close as you can get to the look and feel of the historic originals at the time of production.

Despite being reproductions they have been produced with the same care and attention as my own original art work using archival quality materials. They are made by carefully scanning and restoring original copies of out of copyright images. The sources vary widely - old photographs from junk shops and boot sales, old post cards, advertising ephemera, digital archives. From my original focus on commercial graphic art I have now expanded the shop to include a wide range of material from Japanese woodblock prints to shipping line postcards, from 1950s comic books to 19th century engravings.

The shop categories are based on the content of the image. To help you find things I've set out some more information in the About section.

Even if you don’t find anything today, make sure you bookmark this site and come back frequently, because I'm finding new images to add all the time. If you have any specific requirements, please get in touch as I still have many images as yet unloaded or if I can't help immediately I can search for what you need.

About

Vintage graphics in reproduction

I'm an artist printmaker (I sell on Etsy here: http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Panchromatica.) I've always been fascinated however by graphic design, especially the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods, by Japanese woodblock printing and by old maps.

This shop gives me the excuse to go digging around in archives to find new and exciting things that I can then share with my customers. The range of images I sell has grown from my original topics to include advertisements, vintage photography, botanical prints, Golden Age comics and pulp magazines and a host of other subjects.

All the images I sell are public domain or otherwise out of copyright. However most incorporate significant work by me to restore and prepare them for printing. When you buy from me therefore you are only buying the physical print without any rights to further reproduction. If you want to use the images in other ways, for example in leaflets or promotional material, please contact me first.

The shop is arranged by sections – think of them as departments in a store. Each section is based around particular content, so for example if you want motoring prints, the motoring section is the place to look. I've set out a bit more information below on what to expect in some of the broader sections.

* Advertising and Propaganda covers both commercial advertisements and political propaganda.
* Art & Design contains artwork obviously, but also interior design, architecture and building.
* Costume and Fashion includes both High Fashion and traditional costume, but not uniforms.
* Faces and places is the broadest category covering portraits of one sort or another, street scenes and various aspects of daily life.
* Flowers, animals and birds covers botanical and bird prints and similar, which may have been made with scientific intent, but are now valued more for their decorative qualities.
* Maps and Plans includes street guides and street maps, transport systems, vintage and antique maps etc
* Military includes weapons, uniforms, drill manuals etc.
* Motoring includes advertisements for motor vehicles as well as motor sport. It also includes pictures of car showrooms and similar.
* Pulp Magazines includes Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy, Romance, Western and Crime comics and magazines.
* Riding the rails covers Railways/Railroads and the rail industry generally. Railroad system maps are in Maps and Plans.
* Science and Engineering is generally self explanatory.
* Ships boats and the sea covers nautical and marine images of various sorts but also includes vessels on inland waterways and lakes.
* Sport and Entertainment currently includes theatre posters and baseball cards, but over time I expect to include Theatre and Cinema buildings and a wider range of activities
* Travel and Tourism is about the wider travel industry, including picture postcards, resort posters.
* Note cards etc includes general purpose cards made from other images in the shop plus, at the appropriate time of year, Christmas and other seasonal cards.

If instead of the print subject you want to look for a particular medium such as photography, engravings, woodblock prints etc, these are best found by doing a shop search. I'm adding links to other similar items to the listings, but this will take some time.

Most of the images I sell are ready mounted (sometimes called matting) to fit standard frame sizes. This makes it easier for you to frame as you choose using ready made frames, while still allowing you the option of a custom frame.

All my mounts are in antique white. I have found this complements most images. This standardisation helps me keep costs down and means you get a great image at an affordable price. If you really want a different colour, let me know before ordering and I will give you a quote and a revised delivery date.

All materials used in matting are high-quality and to the same standard as those I use for my own original art work available from my other shop.

All mounted prints include a backing piece in the same card as the mount and are packed in a cello protective bag. They are shipped in securely packed reinforced packaging.

Unmounted prints are sent flat in similar packaging for those made on heavyweight art paper. Lighter prints are rolled in artist tissue and sent in a mailing tube.

In addition to the selling of these reproduction prints here, I also go to specialist fairs and conventions where I can. If you have a specialist interest and you think I might be interested in a stall at one of your events, please get in touch.

I also offer a service to small businesses, guest houses and hotels, restaurants etc, in fact any business looking to decorate their premises with either reproduction prints, or with original art. Contact me for details of how I can help you.

Prices here are retail. Please get in touch if you are interested in reselling any of these images in a retail shop.

Please note - although most of these images are either in the public domain or out of copyright, most also incorporate significant amounts of work by me to restore and prepare the images for printing. When you buy from me you are buying the physical print with no further rights to reproduction. If you want to use any of these images in print or digital publications please contact me first.
