My design life has certainly turned full circle!
Hello, I am a graphic designer and illustrator based in Gurnard on the Isle of Wight in the UK.
Gurnard is a lovely short walk along the seafront from the world renowned sailing centre of Cowes. In fact my first job was designing yachting t-shirts at Ocean World on Cowes High Street - my design life has certainly turned full circle!
In the beginning ...
My wildlife illustrations have grown from a style that I have gradually developed over recent years with my Paper Pleasures stationery brand. Working from my home studio overlooking the Solent, I specialise in producing bespoke wedding and personal stationery that has been delivered to customers around the world. However, the 2020 / 2021 pandemic put wedding plans on hold.
What was I to do?
So I decided to take my designs forward and create a range of greetings cards. Something I always wanted to do. Free time now meant the time was right for action.
Inspired by trips to Norway and Denmark, I created a range of fresh, clean and colourful graphics, drawing inspiration from Nordic folk art along the way. The bold colours of contemporary Scandinavian graphics have influenced my colour palette. My illustrations aim to capture the beauty of nature using botanical elements that have become a feature of my work. Customers love the quality of the materials and the finish of my stationery, I hope you do too.
The designs have been a big hit with my card customers. I am asked "why don't you have your designs on t-shirts". So, motivated by the fantastic feedback I thought, why not - my t-shirts are also available at kathypilcher.com
