Updates

Picked up working on this little painting of the view from Armadale, Skye. Based on photographs I took at the end of a lovely holiday last September.
Adding the finishing touches to a new panoramic painting of Margate, this one is based on photographs I took at Christmas 2016. I went to visit the Turner Contemporary, which can be seen on the right hand side of the painting.
Working on a small acrylic painting on board.

Tiny space, big art!

I work from a small space in my home, and so mostly I create small scale works of art. I dream of a big studio space flooded with light where I can work to the sound of the sea, but this is for my dreams and (still dreaming) the future.

I began specialising in dip pen and ink drawings as a teenager and have continued developing this medium throughout my adult life. The highlight of this practice was being awarded the GMC Prize at the 2017 RBSA (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists) Prize Exhibition, which made me very proud.

I have taken part in many exhibitions, mainly open exhibitions, over the past 20 or so years, and have been awarded several Highly Recommended commendations and a few prizes too.

In addition to my pen and ink work, over the past couple of years I have focused mainly on linocut prints. I don't have a press so I work small as I am limited by the area I can print using my hand and a spoon. I use water based inks as I clean my printing equipment in the bathroom, and water based inks are less intrusive on the domestic environment than oil based inks.

One of the things I've really enjoyed about creating reduction linocuts is that it has created a bridge between my instinctively graphic inclinations and painting. Until recently most of my work was in black and white, but now I am delving into the world of colour. Most of my favourite artists are painters, and so I am tiptoeing further into an ocean of colour, and all that this new exploration may bring.

Creativity has been part of my life for as long as I remember. I hold a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design, and have published poetry and fiction, though now my creative focus is mostly visual. Making art simply makes me feel alive.
