The jacket was just as described and very clean. Saffron was extremely helpful when the package was mislaid at a post office. I am looking forward to wearing this when the weather warms up!

The shop which never wants to sell anything....we love our stock too much!
Pepper Lane Vintage was started in 2009 in a medieval city lane that was originally a pepper market.
In 2014 it has gone exclusively on line and is now located in a lovely Victorian railway station that has not changed since it was first built in the 1860's.
With the blackened cast iron fireplaces, wooden floorboards and trains ambling through from time to time, it is the perfect backdrop for beautiful vintage frocks.

Nevertheless they have.....
We are extremely selective in the pieces which we buy however some wear and tear is inevitable over time. It is very rare to find an immaculate piece, but they do exist. Often though, little repairs are part of the very history of the clothing you find. Stitches made by an attentive 20's lady's maid, or a little nip and tuck by the excited 1950's prom mother can often be found if you look closely.Perhaps even needlework done by a careful owner, proud of what she has saved so hard to buy and fastidious about how she had turned herself out. Just imagine finding an elegant jacket from the 1940's. It may have been worn on and off the steam train day in day out. There is likely to be some bobbling and grazing as its owner opened the carriage door each day.
It's all part of the glorious story of how these delightful clothes came to be in our care. They lasted not only because they were made to last but also because somebody, somewhere loved them so much they really wanted them to last. We promise to tell you the whole story. Its only fair to you and its only fair to the clothes. We want them to be loved unconditionally, faults and all.
It's true too, what they say though....size really does matter. There are obvious difficulties in buying an item which you have not been able to try on. Especially since diet and evolution have changed the basic shape of people over time, and some items can really be very small. Some of the earlier pieces do possess sizing labels but please be aware they bear very little resemblance to the sizes of today's clothing trade. Refer to the measurements in the description to give you a better guide as to whether the beautiful items you fall in love with will actually fit you.
These garments ooze charm and character and are alive with a a kind of femininity which time seems to have forgotten. Somehow they have a way of releasing the sensuous woman in all of us. Please, do not mistake the immaculate sass of retro dresses with the pure elegance of our genuine vintage clothes. There is such a huge difference.
As Mae West once said “You only live once but if you do it right, once is enough”
