Butter Dishes, Sugar Bowls, Clocks and Limited Edition Art Prints

Because of the nature of ceramic glazes no two items are exactly the same except for the solid colour glazes so while I try to keep my photos as current as possible some variations do exist, which adds to the whole concept of handmade items that are made with love and care.

About the Artist
Peter Bowen studied graphic design at the West of England College of Art in Bristol and graduated with a BA degree. He is an accomplished designer, professional watercolour artist and ceramicist now living near Wells in Somerset, England.

My unique style of whimsical painting and ceramics have earned me an international reputation during the last 40 years with much of my work in private collections in Canada, the United States, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany,Italy, Spain, Scotland, Ireland and England.

My paintings and ceramics are a great joy to create and allow me to spend endless hours dreaming up new designs and applying them to paper and clay. I enjoy drawing, painting and making ceramics and have become fascinated with the design and production of three-dimensional functional objects which are made from earthenware clay.

Each piece is handmade, unique and each one is slightly different. When each piece is assembled it is left to dry for about two weeks. The first firing in my own electric kiln is called a bisque firing to 998° C (1,828°F) this is when the clay becomes a ceramic material. Then I glaze the ceramic items using my own glaze recipes which are lead free and food safe.

After the glaze is applied and left to dry it is then fired for a second time in my kiln which turns the glaze into a finish that is microwave oven safe and dishwasher safe.
