Nostalgic Loving, Sustainable Fashion

Already a professional seamstress and historical costumer I decided to combine my love of sewing, vintage fabric, sustainable fashion, and nostalgia into a business. I was increasingly disturbed by how wasteful the clothing and costume industries are of materials, and thought that I could do something about it by using less materials and repurposing fabrics into new garments. The result is Pleat and Bobbin. My handmade clothes are created from repurposed fabrics from old duvets and curtains. Many of them are true vintage. I save all my fabric scraps for future products so that I'm not putting any more waste into the environment.

All patterns are designed, drafted, and sewn by me in my home studio in the South Lanarkshire, Scotland countryside, where the sunshine is never taken for granted, and where sheep and wind turbines cover the horizon.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

All items are open to personalisation. If you have any requests, please ask, although best contact me before you order. I love custom orders, so bring them on! Requests in the past have included: extra long legs on dungarees, a different contrast colour for a yoke, and special fabrics.

Care instructions

All items are machine washable. A care tag is included with each of your items, and I advise washing at 30 degrees and hanging to dry.

I have allergies. How are your fabrics treated?

I wash all my fabrics in non-bio laundry soap and do not use tumble dryer sheets or fabric softener. If you have allergies or sensitivities please contact me, because I may be able to wash your fabric specially for you. Everything is made in my smoke-free, but cat-friendly home.

Do you take returns?

In accordance with Scottish law, you have 7 days of receipt of your order to request a refund. You will be refunded within 30 days (but I'll do it sooner) Returns can't be accepted on custom-made or personalised items (including made to measure or items made-to-order from fabrics not pictured in the listing) unless they are faulty or damaged. Exceptions are: If you knew an item was faulty when you bought it, if you damaged an item by trying to repair it or getting someone else to do it. Please see my policies page for more details about cancellations returns and refunds.

Shipping Info

Items will be shipped Royal Mail First Class Signed For in the UK, and Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed for overseas. Shipping rates reflect current postage costs. If ever an item turns out to be cheaper to post, for instance because of multiple items fitting in the same sized parcel, then I'll refund you the difference.

What are the vintage and second-hand fabrics made from?

In general, vintage duvet covers and curtains are a poly/cotton blend. Second-hand modern fabrics oftern have a slightly higher cotton content and some duvet covers are 100% cotton. However, it's often not possible to know the content of the fabrics, as they are all second hand and are sometimes missing their labels, or ,in the case of the old vintage ones, their labels are too worn and faded to read. As a result I list all care tags as being comprised of 'mixed fibres'. However if you have any concerns about the content of your order then please get in touch.
