About

Hello. I am Jamie Barnes, a Printmaker from the English Lake District and I make etchings about structures in the landscape, handmade mini-etching cards, and unique Etching Plate Pendants.
I also work as a Freelance Curator in Museums and Art Galleries throughout the Lake District.
I have a little printmaking studio in the market place of my hometown of Kendal, birth place of the famous 'Kendal Mint Cake'!
To make my etchings depicting structures in the landscape I use a 'safer etching' technique using copper sulphate solution on zinc plates which I print using my small etching press. To make my Etching Plate Pendants I use the same range of techniques, but I work in miniature and fashion the plates themselves into jewellery using metalwork tools.
One of my biggest influences is my Dad who worked as a Draughtsman and Building Inspector. He taught me to draw and passed on his interests in architecture to me, and I express them in a more arty way.
Everything I make is handmade, original and formed by my influences and surroundings. If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to ask me.

Hello and welcome to my shop.

I have been enthusiastic about art all of my life and over the years have developed a passion for Printmaking.

I am lucky enough to have grown up in Kendal at the edge of the Lake District and have been inspired by the natural beauty of the area. However, my work also focuses on the modern world and the structures that have been added to the landscapes. My family have been a huge influence on my art and have encouraged me and passed on their passions which I have developed into the work I do today.

I still live in Kendal and work from my studio in the town centre to create etchings, prints and cards using safer etching techniques on zinc plates. To make my unique etching plate pendants I use the same techniques but in miniature.

Everything I make is handmade, original and formed by my influences and my surroundings. I hope you enjoy your unique piece of art.
