About

From a hobby to a store

From a hobby to a store

I had a 'want' to turn wood for many years, don't know where the 'want' came from; I guess the process intrigued me. A busy work life meant that there was not enough time to invest in a 'turning' hobby so I had to wait.
When retirement came, (or should I say semi-retirement), life took over again and it was not until I visited a Christmas fayre with family members, that by chance I saw local woodturning courses on offer. I had a one day course bought for me and the rest as they say is history.
In a matter of months I had bought a professional class lathe and soon grew out of it - very soon afterwards I had sold a number of items and decided to open the store.
I now attend artisan markets in the UK and advertise my products using a number of sources.
I receive quite a few inquiries from the USA and Australia (among others) but the cost of shipping and insurance from the UK is quite steep, but I will always seek the best shipping price if asked to do so.

Frequently asked questions

Gift wrapping and packaging

I aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible and therefore unless it is specifically stated in the advert, items will be shipped using recycled boxes and internal packaging. All items are shipped very well protected to comply with courier firm advice.

Sizing details

All items normally have their measurements and pre-shipping weight displayed in the sale details. Please check all dimensions and photographs before ordering. Returns due to dimensions not being checked etc. may be agreed but will be subject to the buyer paying for the return shipping (tracked and insured) and a re-stock fee (10% of original sale).

Care instructions

Care instructions vary and often depend on the finish used on the product. Specific advice should be sought by the customer either at the time of sale or shortly afterwards.

However, care should be taken not to place wooden items near to heat sources or in places which have severe fluctuations in temperature, as either can cause the wood to expand/shrink sometimes causing cracks/splitting. Any damage so caused is not covered by the maker's guarantee of quality.

If you need to return an item

I hope this does not arise but if it should please be aware of the following:
"Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs (subject to agreement between buyer and seller). If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value. This is a confirmation of Etsy policy i.e. Conditions of return."

Please note: "Returns due to dimensions not being checked etc. may be agreed but will be subject to the buyer paying for the return shipping (tracked and insured) and a re-stock fee (10% of original sale). [This is a reiteration of "Sizing Details" shop policy as above]."
