Let's make mad passionate frocks...

I started sewing at my mother's knee. I was five years old and it was 1970! I've been sewing off and on since then. All my dolls clothes are sewn by hand.

I've been doing this for over 15 years now, and as people kept asking me if they could have the patterns for my dolly fashions, I decide to start publishing them. There are now over 50 patterns in my Etsy shop - with plenty more to come...

Raccoon's Rags is a tiny operation, I care very much about my hand-made items, the patterns, and the people who buy them. I do hope you enjoy my shop.

Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns
Contact me within: 14 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 45 days of delivery
I don't accept exchanges or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalised orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
  • Items on sale
Returns and exchange details
DIGITAL DOWNLOADS (PDF):
Due to the digital nature of these products and the fact that they can not be “returned”, I am unable to provide refunds. Before placing an order I ask that read each product description THOROUGHLY, to make sure you fully understand what you are purchasing.

Please also read my shop policies section. That said, in the event of any problems, please do contact me. It's my wish that you should be happy with the quality of your purchase. This is a tiny business, and my customers are very important to me.
Payment
I now accept payments through Etsy Direct checkout, which means you can use debit and credit cards, and Etsy gift cards. I also accept PayPal.
Shipping
I ship from the UK.

Obviously there is no postal charge for PDF downloads. BUT! Under Paypal and Etsy rules DIGITAL DOWNLOADS CANNOT BE RETURNED, so there is no refund available once the product has been downloaded.

My postage rates include a fee of £2.50 for packaging, handling, and fuel to get me to the local post office.

SELLER DOES NOT SHIP TO P.O. BOX NUMBER ADDRESSES. This is non-negotiable. My reasons are:
1) Every time I've been asked to send to a PO box number, the parcel has gone astray.
2) In the USA, certain couriers do not deliver to PO box number. As a UK resident - I have no control over whichever courier is used, USPS, UPS, or Fedex.
3) I ship all my items by Royal Mail International 'Tracked and Signed for' shipping. If sending to a PO box number, there is nobody available to sign for a parcel.

The buyer must PLEASE accept that it can take up to six weeks for a parcel to arrive if I'm shipping overseas. If your item has not arrived after this time, I will issue a full refund to your PayPal account.

PLEASE ALLOW 3 TO 5 DAYS FOR YOUR ITEM TO BE SHIPPED.
I live in a rural area and I have to ask a kind friend to drive me to the nearest post Office. I can't always get to the Post office the day after you have made a purchase. Please allow 5 working days... but very often it will be sooner than that.

SELLERS CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR DELAYS IN THE POSTAL SYSTEM OR FOR CUSTOMS CHARGES.

Seller is not responsible for non-English speaking buyers failing to understand the sales page content, or the content of the patterns themselves.

EU VAT:

Etsy has to comply with new EU VAT laws, so EU customers will see the prices listed with VAT charged on top of my actual prices. I do not receive any of this increase, Etsy collects it, and it all goes to the tax office.

SELLER WILL ONLY SEND ITEMS BY "SIGNED FOR", OR TRACKED DELIVERY. I sincerely regret the fact the UK Post Office charges so much for "Signed For" delivery. However I reserve the right to protect myself with shipping. I have never lost a single item with 'Signed For' - which is good for the buyer too.

I will no longer send anything overseas by regular airmail, even with assurances from my buyer that they will accept responsibility. Under Etsy rules, I still have to make a full refund if a parcel is lost, hence tracked shipping only. This is non-negotiable.

Why do I not offer commissions, or clothing made to order?

My customers mean the world to me. Not only are most of them awesome, but they literally put clothes on my back and food on my table, HOWEVER - here are my reasons.

1) My health. I'm able to run this micro-business only by carefully managing my anxiety-related health problems. Due to this, I'm unable to tolerate the extra pressure involved in taking on a commission. Many apologies, but that's the way it has to be.

2) I have to devote most of my time to publishing the sewing patterns. This tiny business is is my only source of income and I need to eat. I do offer ready-made outfits in my Etsy store, but these are incidental to the patterns themselves. I have to make a garment in order to produce pictures in my instructions, and they're all so meticulously made, that I like to be able to offer customers the chance to buy them.

3) Commissions are stressful, however kind and patient the customer is.

4) Commissions often cost more than I can expect to get for the finished item. Invariably I won't already have the fabric or embellishments the customer has asked for. (I have a tiny sewing room which is already overflowing with supplies.) It's often hard to find certain materials in small quantities, so an artisan often has to buy a metre of fabric for one small doll's dress, another for a hat, ditto tights, etc.

5) Backlogs. Once commissions start to be undertaken, the list grows ever longer until customers have to wait for long months before their project can be undertaken. It can suck all the creativity and spontaneity out of the artists work. Also, as with waiting for certain artists dolls, sometimes commission backlogs can reach ridiculous proportions, such as having to wait up to 18 months. Should I fall ill five months down the line... that is lot of very disappointed people. If cash deposits have been paid, I'd have to refund them all... and that would bankrupt my very tiny business account.

DIGITAL SEWING PATTERNS:
You are welcome to use my sewing patterns to make your own doll clothes to sell. HOWEVER - please respect my copyright, and give credit to Raccoon’s Rags on your sale page. For example it’s okay to write “Handmade by myself, using a Raccoon’s Rags pattern” or even “adapted from a Raccoon’s Rags pattern” But not “My own design”.

I always credit other artisans/designers when I use their patterns or adapt them. They did all the hard work and deserve the recognition.

In the same way that you purchase a music mp3 file, or an e-book, your purchase is one copy of this digital product by Raccoon's Rags - for your personal use only.

Please do not share, re-sell, or give to someone else in any way. Please use my patterns with respect to my copyright.
