Announcement    Welcome to Ragged Home a true cottage industry in Cumbria, England. Located in a tiny village in the wild and rural heart of the Pennine Hills - all of my items are designed and made from scratch by me alone. When I say 'handmade' I mean by me!! not by someone, somewhere around the world...

Now a word about these little gnomes...the history of them goes back hundreds of years, along with the description of them as little chaps, generally with grey coats and coloured hats. All of us gnome makers put our own spin on this character from mythology, however none of us should be claiming to 'make the originals' or to have come up with the idea...that would be a bit of a fib! Call them Nordic, Scandinavian, Norse, Swedish, Finnish, Danish or Norwegian: Tomte, Nisse, Tonttu or Gnome - we are all copying an idea thought up in fairytales long before any of us were born. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of them.

I hope you enjoy browsing here - new designs are added all the time and custom requests are welcomed.
Please check dispatch times before buying
*NO WHOLESALE/TRADE/BULK, sorry.

*SOME ITEMS ARE MADE TO ORDER SO PLEASE CHECK DISPATCH TIMES BEFORE BUYING.

Thank you so much for supporting rural industry

About RaggedHome

Sales 3,185
On Etsy since 2010

A True Cottage Industry!

Ragged Home started out on Etsy in 2010 but life got in the way for a while and after various adventures, including getting married and spending a year in Kenya, Ragged Home returned in late 2013. This is now my full time business.

All Ragged Home products are absolutely hand-crafted. Everything is made from scratch by me right here in Cumbria. The only machinery used is a sewing machine. I design all of the products myself and I spend a great deal of my time on developing new items and ideas for my shop

Our 'Ragged Home' is a stone cottage in a (tiny) village in the very wild and rural heart of the Pennine Hills. We're about as far north as you can go in England before you reach Scotland. Thank you for supporting rural industry - it means a lot to me and those like me who try to earn a living in remote locations.

Additional policies and FAQs
Sorry but I don't offer wholesale or bulk discounts

I offer a range of different styles but am always happy to discuss custom orders.

All gnomes have needlefelted wool noses and the component parts are hand stitched together

All gnomes are weighted for stability - I use gravel or plastic toy pellets depending on the size and fabric of the gnome

Gnomes are shipped in boxes which are wrapped in polythene bags for protection

All photographs are my own copyright and may not be commercially used without my express permission.

Frequently asked questions
Do you offer wholesale or bulk purchases?

Sorry but I don't offer wholesale or bulk...there is only me sewing and I simply can't produce on a large scale

I'd like to order multiple items...do you offer a discount?

No sorry I don't offer volume discounts as all of my items are labour intensive to make and made with the same care and attention to detail

My parcel hasn't arrived yet, do you have a tracking number?

most items are sent either Royal Mail 1st class or Standard Airmail. Neither service is tracked - adding tracking is pretty expensive service in the UK so I don't use this in order to keep costs down for customers.

However I do sometimes add tracking to large orders and those sent by courier also have tracking. If your order was sent using a tracked service you will have received the details on your dispatch notice.

Custom and personalised orders

Please contact me if you'd like a custom size or colour and I'll be happy to help when possible
