Roy Raymonde Story

The wonderful, colourful and exciting work of Roy Raymonde has been kept in his studio until now! We are his family and curators of his life-work. We have now decided to sell some of his illustrations as we want the world to enjoy Roy's spectacular cartoons for Playboy and many other publications. Here on Etsy we are offering you the chance to own one of his original Playboy Cartoon, preliminary illustrations and published cartoons. They are in very good condition, signed and most of them have a caption. Some were chosen by the Editor's of Playboy for publication and others not. We will highlight which ones were chosen for publication. Before email they were sent by post across to the US or to Germany. Roy would create both the idea behind the cartoons and the stunning illustrations. His humor, intelligence and wit won over many editors and we are excited to offer them to both his fans and collectors!

This is a rare opportunity to own original artwork by Roy and we are happy to answer any questions you may have...

Roy Raymonde was an award-winning cartoonist, advertising artist and illustrator whose work appeared regularly in Punch, Playboy, the Sunday Telegraph and other publications for more than half a century. In 2002 on returning from Japan, he sadly suffered a stroke that left him visually impaired and unable to concentrate for long periods. From this time on he was unable to work...Roy sadly left us in the year of 2009 but we are incredibly grateful to have his fabulous work that is full of his spirit and incredible wit!

Here is some background on Roy:
Roy Raymonde was an English cartoonist whose work appeared in many (UK) national and also international publications. He was particularly well known for his long association with Playboy Magazine (US and German editions) and Punch Magazine. In the 1960s his features for The Sunday Telegraph were widely recognised, and at the same time he was contributing cartoons regularly to other publications including Private Eye, Reader’s Digest, The Daily Sketch, Mayfair Magazine and several trade publications. As his career progressed he became celebrated for his fluid comic drawing style, which was to evolve into the lyrical and flamboyantly colourful genre seen in his work for Playboy. It was his masterful depiction of small gestures, details and expressions that added a heightened dimension to his cartoons and have inspired a generation of comic illustrators.
