Giving away free books to children and older adult groups in the UK.

Re-Read Ltd

Re-Read is a social enterprise based in Doncaster, giving new life to books. We are committed to the recycling of pre-owned books which was the original catalyst for what is now an established social enterprise. Our approach is multi focussed, having social aims and objectives across a number of key areas.

Our aims are to reduce the number of books finding their way into the waste system and to bring about the re-use of books which are still of good quality. This activity carries substantially less environmental impact than that of producing new books.

The books we distribute to children are completely free, removing the barriers of cost from those in our communities who can benefit the most. In order to achieve this we take donations of books from across Yorkshire, whilst also supporting charity outlets by purchasing their surplus stock.

The power of reading and the impact of book ownership has been a focus of recent research where it was shown to be a major catalyst for change in the lives of children and adults. Re-Read wishes to demonstrate that power for change by gifting books into the communities where they are needed.
We are providing services and activities that promote literacy, educational attainment and improve the life chances of local residents. We distribute books across all age groups, not just children and young people, believing we can make most impact in areas of high social and economic deprivation.

Our passion is literacy, our outcome is social change.
