Announcement   INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS OUTSIDE THE UK:
Royal Mail quotes five to seven WORKING days (not Saturdays and Sundays) for international delivery from the UK. I have known it to be both quicker and slower. If you want to know where your package has reached, you MUST choose International Tracked at checkout, since Standard shipping does not provide any tracking information. Please note that one method is not faster than the other; they both take the same route. Tracked just lets you know where it has reached, for peace of mind.

All the advertisements are original items, carefully removed from contemporary publications; 30, 40, 50, 60, even 70 years old. There are NO SCANS OR COPIES here! I clearly do not sell items in an unacceptable condition - no tears, foxing, or staining - but there MAY be some sign of minor wear, a little page-yellowing, or some minor show-through (what is printed on the reverse of the page visible as a shadow on the front). Having said that, many adverts look as though they were printed yesterday; although they weren't!

Scans and copies are perfect, but ten-a-penny. Originals may not be perfect, but are rare and in very limited supply; in most cases, I only have one copy of a particular advert. It's what makes them collectible; they're as old as the car, and as old as the memory. That's why I supply a Certificate of Authenticity with each and every one. If you have any questions about a particular advert, I undertake to reply to you within one working day.

By the way, if you'd like me to find a particular car advert for you, please get in touch. I have thousands of adverts; only a tiny proportion are in my Etsy shop.

I send items by Royal Mail. Standard shipping is second class. There are also options for signed for first class; and next day delivery.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR MY VALUED AMERICAN CUSTOMERS:

My mounts fit exactly in 10" x 12" frames, which is the common size in the UK. In the US, although 10x12 is widely available by mail order, 10x13 is sometimes more commonly available locally. I can cut the mount to 10x13 instead of 10x12 if you wish; please make the request when you submit the order. Please bear in mind that the visible area may be slightly different to that shown on the scans, which are cropped to give an impression of the visible area in a 10x12 mount. Hope that makes sense.

Please also note that if you are buying three of more items, it is cheaper for you to select International Tracked and Signed For; it's all to to do with weight.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR MY VALUED AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND CUSTOMERS:

My experience is that Royal Mail struggle to meet their stated objective of 5 to 7 working days for delivery from the UK to Australia. Nothing I can do about it, I'm afraid; my advice is that you should allow at least twice as long. Sorry!

Please also see my advice above about International Tracked.

About

Because The Past Makes A Great Present

Please Note: Nothing in the following is intended to suggest that ladies don't also love their cars....

Scenario One: Father's Day approaches. Or a birthday; or anniversary, or Christmas. You ask your nearest and dearest what he'd like for a gift. He looks at you blankly like you have just asked him to split the atom. Then he shrugs and says "surprise me."

With great effort of will, you stop yourself picking up the nearest blunt instrument and explaining to him how VERY unhelpful that is.

Scenario Two: In a moment of madness, you ask your nearest and dearest what his first or favourite car was. He drones on and on and on....

With great effort of will, you stop yourself picking up the nearest blunt instrument and explaining to him how he should now STOP TALKING.

Enter, stage left, RetroAdverts <fanfare, dancing girls>. In an act of inspiration common to all the great discoveries, we combine the commonplace and unlikely ingredients to produce something extraordinary....

Scenario Three. Birthday, Father's Day, Christmas. Unwrapping the present, his eyes rest on the original, contemporary advertisement for his second greatest love. Original, mind you; no scans or copies at RetroAdverts. Every gift as old as the car, and as old as the memory. He beams. You smile. All is well.

I sit in England and find the original, contemporary advert for that first or favourite car, then I custom-mount it so it fits perfectly in the frame of your choice for that perfect, unusual and rare gift. It's raining here, BTW.

Frequently asked questions
How long will it take to ship to the US and Australia?

Obviously once I post it, I am in the hands of the Royal Mail and your national carrier, so I cannot guarantee delivery times. Royal Mail gives a shipping time of 5 to 7 working (not calendar) days, but my experience is that this is very optimistic. Please don't rely on that shipping time if it's a gift and time is short.

How long will it take to ship to Europe?

The Royal Mail gives a shipping time of 3 to 5 working days, and my experience is that this is met most of the time. I can't guarantee it, however; like you, I am in the hands of others once it's posted.

Do the other shipping options guarantee a faster delivery?

In the UK, generally yes; next day delivery does what it says on the tin. For the rest of the world, no. The parcel takes exactly the same route whichever option you choose. The only advantage to the tracked options is that you can go on the Royal Mail website, type in the number I provide you with and it will tell you where in the world it has reached.

Can I request that the print is not mounted, or mounted at a different size to that shown?

Yes, you can. Provided the print is a suitable size, I will mount it at the size you request. There is no increased shipping charge if the size is larger. If you wish the print unmounted, please don't underestimate the cost of getting it mounted yourself; it can be quite expensive.

Do you really turn your orders round in one to two working days?

Yes, I do. The one very slight amendment is if one of those days is a public holiday in the UK (when the Post Offices are not open) and you are unaware because it is not a public holiday in your country. However, I will always let you know if that is the case and such circumstances are rare. I would add that I turn around about 80-90% of orders within one day; often just a few hours.

The print is a gift. Can I ask you to send it directly to the person for whom it is intended, but without a receipt included?

Yes, you can, and I will send it directly to that person and forward the receipt to you electronically. However, please be aware that, for packages outside Europe, I have to affix a customs declaration to the outside of the package which has some shipping details on it, including the value.

This is almost what I want, but not quite. Do you have others?

The honest answer is possibly. Obviously I can't find an advert that was never produced in the first place; but I have thousands of adverts, of which only around 200 are on Etsy, so it's possible I have something closer to what you want. Send me a convo, and I'll search my archive! If there's something you like, we can set up a custom order, so you retain all the Etsy convenience and protection.
Please be aware that many adverts are extremely rare (and getting rarer) and in the majority of cases I only have one copy, with limited chances of finding another.
