Welcome to my Etsy shop, and thanks for your interest in my range of hand-painted gifts for little ones.

I guess I have always been a bit of an 'indoor type' of person. As a child, although I did own a shiny Raleigh bike and did my fair share of playing out with friends, I was more often than not found sewing dolls' clothes, or making collages, or threading beads or building models of some kind or other (how avidly I used to watch Blue Peter with it's 'sticky-backed plastic,' toothpaste tube lids, wire coat-hangers and 'Here's one I made earlier'!) My older brother was (and still is) both a talented artist and skilled plastic modeler, and I spent many hours in his company, watching him paint the finest of details on model planes.

I have also always enjoyed drawing, and particularly love sketching flowers and animals from real life or photographs. We always had pet rabbits when I was little and the margins of many notebooks over the years have been decorated with doodles of rabbits in various poses!

In my previous working life as a primary school teacher, I had lots of practice at writing children's names clearly and when my daughter was small I enjoyed decorating and personalising gifts for her and her friends. I find the names people choose, and sometimes the reason for that choice, really interesting and when an order comes in for a personalised item, it is the first thing I look at.

Although these products themselves are not hand-made, each one has been individually hand-painted by myself without the use of any stencils or transfers. I have chosen to decorate wooden things as I love the feel of wood and all the natural variations in grain and colour, and for children I think wooden objects make a welcome change from all of the mass-produced items made from brightly coloured plastic. I also like the idea of giving a gift that will really last and I hope that the things I paint will be used and enjoyed, but will also be treasured for many years to come.

I am based in the lovely old market town of Bridgnorth in Shropshire, and I am fortunate enough to have a small studio above a shop on the High Street, which looks directly onto our Town Hall (built in 1652 according to the sign above the door). On a bright day the sun is reflected off its white walls and I often paint to live music, courtesy of the regular buskers on the pavement below (there is also a shop across the road which sells marvellous egg custards - how much better could life be?)

Please have a browse in my shop. I hope you'll find something you love!
