About

Robyn Coetzee's Glass Birds

Birds have always been a part of my life. I grew up in South Africa in a house built around an aviary, and my first pet was a much-loved cockatiel.

My birds are made from kiln formed glass. Glass sheet is cut into shapes and layered, then glass powder added for fine detail. The finished birds are then carefully moved over into my kiln. They are heated to over 800°C so that the glass melts and the layers fuse together. The heating and cooling anneals the glass and makes it strong. My birds are sunlight and water resistant.

I sell my work in our co-operative shop 'Fig' on the bohemian Gloucester Road in Bristol and at the very popular Bath Christmas Market, so my customers are scattered far and wide. They regularly ask if I sell my birds online so that they can add to their collection or buy a gift. So finally I have set up my internet shop!

Each item is made to order and hand-made so each is unique. However if there is something particular that you would like to add or change I will gladly try to accommodate your request.

Thanks for visiting!

Additional policies and FAQs
I do attempt to photograph my glass work carefully and as accurately as possible. Each and every item is hand made and slightly different. Glass is very tricky to photograph and it will always vary slightly from the image you see on your screen. If you are disappointed with your item I will gladly send you a refund on return of the item.
