About Rubyandthefoxes

My little home studio!
-
My design process starts by sketching out an idea onto squared paper from photographs before transferring to a computer.
-
I start and finish my pieces on knitting needles, but use a manual knitting machine for the main body of my work.
-
As the work faces away from me on the machine it is always an exciting moment when I remove it to see how it looks!

After a bit of sewing up we are finished, phew!
So you may be wondering 'why Ruby and the Foxes'?!
Well, it all started when I was looking for inspiration for a new creative venture. I have always loved arty and crafty stuff. I went to art college and studied interior design at university and since then have worked on various projects in pencil, paint, paper, wool, you name it! I have worked on pet portraits in the past in pencil and acrylics, but was looking to try something different. Then I was struck with an idea, could I knit a portrait?! So I started sketching ideas out and researching on the internet, and voila, I designed my own pattern, knitted it up, and my little dog Ruby's portrait was created! That got me thinking... what else could I design and knit, and I was hooked!
Growing up on a farm in North Yorkshire I developed a huge love of animals and nature, and I still love nothing more than heading out and exploring with my best bud Ruby in the countryside of Surrey where I now live, so these have always been a natural source of inspiration for me. This along with Ruby's uncanny resemblance to a fox (according to nearly everyone we meet when we're out on a walk!) 'Ruby and the Foxes' seemed like the perfect name ,(and I like how it sounds as though she has her own rock band!) and so my journey began in the Autumn of 2015.
I hope you enjoy looking around my designs, and if you decide to have a go at knitting one up I'd love to see the results! I'm always working on new design ideas to add to my collection so if there's something you'd like to see please get in touch with your suggestions.
